Just purchased the blackout valances for my 4runner. From researching I see the front cap needs to be removed as they have apparently added some backing of some sort behind the bumper and the radar detect needs to be uncoupled as well as the fog lights. Anyone done the 2023 yet and seen any other unforseen issues? I was going to just paint them but I just can't think it would last. Yes I've searched the forum but most are attaching by just removing the valance alone on previous years. Sorry if I'm yanking anyone's chain but updates create new challenges sometimes.

It's the same as previous years and yes, it can be done without removing the bumper.

If you have the TRD skidplate you'll have to remove that ... I was like why the fuck can't I do this haha. Now I can remove the valence in about 15-20 including removing the skidplate. The first time is a bit tricky finding a few of the clips.

It's faster to just remove your front bumper it's actually not scary or hard believe me I thought it would be

No one ever seems to mention you gotta get 13 clips back in after. When bumpers off clips out or in in 60 sec

I have a 2022, the clips were extremely stiff to do so I ended up partially removing the front bumper, that helped a ton. Watch the video by trd John on how to remove front bumper it’s the most helpful. The only added step you will have to do is remove the 10mm for the bracket holding the front radar (you will see what I mean)

I did the replacement on my '23 OR without removing the bumper. It was probably 30 degrees in the garage when I did mine, and it was hell on my fingers getting the clips out, so I'd recommend doing it when the temperature is warm and the clips and other plastic parts seem to flex a little better for removal.

A nice 60 degree day so I went for it. Had 1 clip that gave me some trouble but otherwise install went smooth. Rain in the forecast so I'll wait for another day for the rear. Thanks for all the advice.

Anyone find a way to get new clips? 4Runner lifestyle is only the valance. Mine came loose and when I got it all the way off, a few clips were missing. Now I have to get a new valance and clips ‍♂️. I may have to go OEM which is super pricey for a piece of plastic.

Damn sorry to hear that, I recently needed OEM yellow valance cap clip replacements (down behind front wheels), ridiculous prices. Same with hex bolt screws for fender and windshield.

So for bumper valances, after being in a lot of threads on the topic I've never seen anyone talk about replacing, sorry. OEM is prolly the choice you know you gotta make. This problem is why just didn't risk it, stopped trying to remove those clips with the bumper on because I was starting to potentially damage them due to frustration :p

You could also post a "WTB - bumper valance clips" on the 5th Gen for sale section. There's got to be plenty of OR or Pro 4R owners who have replaced their bumpers with aftermarket, and may have these just lying around. They may send you what you need for the price of the postage.

I ordered some OEM and Amazon ones. Took some doing, but got the old ones off without taking off the bumper, but I have a feeling I’ll be pulling the bumper to install once the replacement valance (also OEM) shows up.

Not that anyone cares, but… new OEM valance arrived today. I ended up installing without removing the bumper (got partway through taking it off and got frustrated with all the wiring harnesses and clips - decided to save that for another project). Those Amazon clips worked perfectly. OEM valance ended up being ~$200 (toyota San Diego has free shipping and was much cheaper than my local dealer who wouldn’t match the price) which is ridiculous for a piece of plastic, but happy with it and didn’t have to worry about matching the rear valance… if I was doing front and rear, I probably would have gone with 4Runner lifestyle.
