I have Apple CarPlay. My phone was plugged in and I was listening to tunes like any ordinary day. This was until my audio stopped working and the volume knob and the volume setting on the steering wheel will not work. I tried holding the power button to reset them, and also turned the car off for a while but nothing has worked so far. Anyone have any ideas on what I could check next?

Perhaps you have your phone on 'mute' setting?

I do not. Radio stations won't even turn on at this point, anything to do with volume does not work.

Maybe disconnect the negative battery terminal for a bit?

Is the issue only with carplay or with the FM radio too?

Had to do this on my daughter's Rav4 once, not sure if it applicable:
    1) turn on the ignition (don't start the motor)
    2) set the parking brake
    3) put the transmission in reverse
    4) wait five minutes then return everything to normal.
It has something to do with the navigation unit.

I just remembered something about once reading of long push the 'Mode/Hold' button on the steering wheel.

^^Following,…. my 21 limited does this too, also JBL.. no volume nor volume indicator level when turning knob.. happens every few weeks and mostly can be fixed by restarting the car… but sometime not for a day. Never found a reason.. dealer “can’t reproduce”

Ok then it’s gotta be the system. My wife had a similar issue the other day but it was user error.

She didn’t have any audio through CarPlay but her phone, although connected to CarPlay, has the source selected on some other Bluetooth device so all I had to do was change the source to the 4Runner

Didn’t work for me either. I tried the battery method as well, no luck. Thinking it’s the amp.

Bringing it into service Monday ugh.

Too poor to buy anything now
I had a similar issue with my 2021 Tacoma Limited. It turned out to be a software conflict between my phone and the head unit. It seemed to think a call was being made and the radio muted.
