So, I just got a call from my local dealer informing me that he was just informed that 2021 TRD Pro production has been halted. Anyone else hearing this?

Not according to my dealer. I got one last Friday. Arrived to the dealer Thursday. Did not mention anything about production has stopped. Only thing they mentioned was delivery is slow due to pandemic.

I had a Pro built in Japan on January 22, and I still don’t have it. Dealer has told me Covid was the excuse, then I was told they ran out of Pro wheels, which are put on at the port. Now it is supposed be here by the end of the week. I am just really wondering what the real deal is. So maybe what the dealer told you makes sense.

There is a world wide semi conductor shortage. Not sure if you heard about that by now.

It is affecting vehicle production. Its killing us at work with parts back ordered for months.

Yes, the chip shortage is killing new cars. Check any new car lot. They are empty.

I think a dealer will say any bullshit that comes to mind to push you towards a vehicle that is on the lot and close the deal.

    Car salespeople are snakes.

Pro deliveries, especially on the west coast, have been extremely slow and dealers are receiving smaller quantities of Pros compared to previous years. I waited 7 months for mine. Actual production for mine began in January, and arrived at port early/mid February. The dealership didn’t actually receive it until end of March. There was no explanation for why it sat so long at the port.

I haven’t heard of any stopped production lines. Were you already on the order list or trying to find an allocation?

Wow, you had a wait too. My production was 1-22-2021. I have waited through so many emails from the dealer and screenshots from the dealer daily about when it is supposed to get here. It landed at port at the end of February.
Didn’t move till the end of March. Now they say BEFORE May 3. Fingers crossed.

Seems once they're produced they land at the port fairly promptly. It's getting them released from there that seems to take forever. Wonder how big a crew works at each port?

I am not sure about the PRO's but I ordered an ORP. My build date was supposed to be yesterday on 4/27. My dealer checked the system on Monday and confirmed it still showed 4/27 build date.

I also recall reading if you ordered a cargo tray none were available on any units.

I also read that Long Beach and several California ports have huge backups and freighters are sitting anchored and waiting up to 7 days to dock and unload.

If they're landing at Port and staying there forever, then it must be a shortage on Pro supplies or people to put on said supplies.

I totally agree. That is the bottle neck. My dealer said they didn’t have any Pro wheels to put on and they were trying to find them from another source. But who knows. Definitely where the problem seems to be.

How about this one. Two days ago was my first report back from the salesman from the March 11 order. Now I specifically told the guy I wasn't in a hurry because 1) I'm not, and 2) I don't feel like being lied to or tracking the vehicle from factory to boats to the port. He starts talking about trading for Lunar with a white Pro he has inbound. I do a quick search for shits and the other Toyota dealer 5 miles away suddenly has one in Lunar Rock. How much you wanna bet my dealer knows that and is afraid I'm gonna find out and pull a switcharoo. Sons a bitches lol. Stay tuned

Be careful if you are looking on dealer websites of inventory. I had ordered mine same time as you and it showed up on dealer website last week. I spoke with them and its automatically generated on their website just before production even with a VIN. Obviously it's my build and spoken for.

So just because something shows up as inventory on a dealer website does not necessarily mean one it has been built yet, and two that is is not a customer order spoken for. Just thought I would share.

    Feel free to ask
Current view of the freighters off Long Beach harbor. Hasn’t improved much since I was out there a couple months ago. Probably a few Pros out there somewhere.

Makes one wonder if and when we return to normal, if production will shift into overdrive to make up for the lost income by Toyota, the dealers and everyone else in that food chain over the past year / forward year? Will there be an over supply 12 months from now?

Yeah, my truck appeared on he dealer website too even though it was my pre-order. At least they had the decency to mark it as “sold”. The sales guy said at least 10 people contacted the dealer to inquire if it was truly sold. Given the demand for the Pros, I didn’t doubt him.

Seems like it's the TRD Pro's this year. Last year it seemed as though we went through the same process with buying our Tacoma. The nice thing is, they are built right here in San Antonio, but the building process was fine. The release took about a month and a half.

    Cheers,

    Sean

The company I work for has product that comes in through LA on container ships and we are seeing stuff sit "in port" for a month before it gets put on the rail. I don't even know how long it is sitting off the coast before then.

I was told mine is leaving Japan on freighter Saturday and scheduled to arrive in California by May 15th. That seems like a very long time at sea. I thought maybe couple days. Maybe there “cushion” time now with all this going on.

It'll be a tricky dance for sure when it comes to forecasting future supply and demand (for many companies). I'm predicting there will be a significant over supply of many products at some point. The buying just can't sustain at this level.

Salesman just do not know and will say whatever is circulating through their dealership and others or in the news in order to have some type of answer to the customer. And most customers will accept the responses at face value and truth. Toyota is not being affecting due to chip shortages like other automakers. However…all supply chains for industries in general are being taxed currently. It does seem Pro’s are sitting at ports for about a month for port work before being delivered to dealers. I do not see production as being stopped, but I can see some parts being slow.

    Ordered my lunar rock 2/2/21
    Built 2/4/21
    Left Japan 2/16/21
    Arrived East Coast port 3/20/21
    Arrived at dealer 4/14/21

Anxious to find out when the 2022's will be announced and I wonder how long of an overlap period there is to order either a 21 or a 22. Will there be a backlog of 21's late this year as they transition to the 22's? Should make for an interesting fall for auto manufacture's and prospective buyers!
