I have a 2021 4Runner and have had so many people flashing their brights at me when passing by. I have been spending some time in some mountain towns lately so there is for sure less cars and general light pollution but wondering if this is happening to other 2021 drivers.

These headlights are for sure bright and the throw pretty far and wide compared to my previous SUV.

Might give the dealer a call next week to at least have them look at it...pretty annoying to have people flashing their brights at me when they pass by...nothing I can do people...these are my OEM lights!

Thanks for any insights or comments from other 2021 owners.

Kind of funny, because before I got this truck, everyone I saw with these lights coming at me, I thought... you pos...now I have them and they are amazing. I did , however, adjust them down just a tad from stock, and I mean a tad, and now no one flashes me.

I’ve got a 2021 4Runner with LEDs and yes they are nice and bright, but mine have a clear cutoff that should prevent glare in oncoming traffic...no issues to date

I think that's what I need to do. Its just a phillips head needed to adjust right?

Also, did you adjust both sides down or just the left for oncoming traffic?

yea, just a phillips. I did both, but probably really only need to do drivers side. seriously though, it didn't take much.

If you haven't lifted your 4runner don't do anything to your headlights. You touch your headlights alignment only when you lift.
Some people doesn't know how to drive at night. How to drive at night should be included in drivers handbook when getting driver license.

Totally! I keep checking the Toyota accessories catalog looking for them! I got the OEM LED fogs that way and am really hoping Toyota will do the same with the headlights soon. The halogens on my 2020 are the only thing that made me say, WTF Toyota, how can you be so cheap?!:laugh:

    2021 parts are now online:
    https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota_2...Y---HEADLAMP---RIGHT/97134245/8114035620.html

Issue is going to be whether 2020 and earlier wiring harnesses work with the 2021 headlight assembly.

Right. It's one thing to be able to buy parts to replace stuff that came stock on your 2021 -- quite another to have them offered as a drop in replacement for 2020 or earlier trucks. I read somewhere that a lot of the wiring in general changed for 2020 (maybe because of the new safety features / radar and camera?) so that's had me wondering if the 2021 units might be compatible only with the 2020s and not 2019 or earlier.

Does anyone remember how long it took for Toyota to make their LED fogs available? As I recall, they were introduced on the TRD Pro in 2019 (or was it 2018?) but I don't know when they became available for owners of other models and years. I just know they were already in the catalog when I bought my Limited in June. I'm asking of course cause if Toyota is likely to wait a year or so then I'll stop checking all the time

I checked and the 2021 headlight assemblies are available and seem to be reasonably priced through some dealers. We'll have to wait to see if someone purchases assemblies and tries to install. From photos, it looks like the high beam is plug-and-play but the low beam plug looks different on the 2021, although could be the same.

They’re not plug and play. Same situation with the Tacoma’s. They will require a conversion harness.

For that money, the halogens seem brighter and brighter
I’ll slap the led fogs and problem solved

Thought the same thing until I started checking dealerships. Can purchase deeply discounted. Regardless, still need a conversion harness, which is not available at this time.

I get flashed (giggity) pretty consistently in our '21 as well. I think it's mostly people that are overly sensitive or in part due to the amount of hills/elevation changes in our area.

I did an HID conversion in our '16 when we had it and they were awesome. I'm satisfied with the new LED's though.

I don’t recall ever being annoyed by OEM halogens coming at me on the road.

But I’m often annoyed by some of the newer OEM led’s coming at me in newer model year vehicles. I think it’s just a thing now.

Same and you and OP. Not always but I’d rather have them as factory set even if some think I’m being a POS. I do feel bad though.

    Clearly High beam is Halogen....

Toyota says LED head lights but in fact they're 50/50 LED low beam and High beams Halogen

From what I understand, the high beams and low beams are incorporated into the same housing/spot. The halogen remains where the high beams were for previous years to run the DRLs.

EDIT: For the Limited trim and Pro models only, all others have LED lows and halogen highs. Pretty dumb if you ask me...

We looked at Limited and Pro trims and they have the same set up as the TRD Off roads and SR5’s

I will be going by the dealer today to bag the deal and will get some pics of the Limited and Pro head lights....

I'm surprised more people aren't discussing this. These things are $1,076 per side. Holy crap!

Looking around, it looks like some dealers are selling them for $750 per side. Still: holy crap! Are people really down with spending $1,500 to upgrade headlights?

Must be an example of trying to ramrod a new technology into an old housing design?

Sure looks to me like rather than designing a new headlight, they simply rammed an led into the old units instead of designing a new housing from the ground up.

It’s a weird approach, no doubt. I suppose they just didn’t sink a bunch of R&D and retooling $$ into it if they knew they’re near the end of the model run.
