I'm new so please be patient. A little background first of all! I drove a 2011 Tahoe for a few years and absolutely loved it. When it hit 100K miles my wonderful hubby decided I needed something new. We live a mile off the main road (fairly level but gravel, not state maintained, and in the mountains of SW Virginia). He bought me a 2016 Jeep Wrangler with all the bells and whistles. I absolutely hated it. After a year of my crying and complaining, he traded his big truck for me a 2017 Buick Enclave AWD and he took the Jeep. Now I have to eat crow because there were days that I couldn't get out last winter. I told him I would take the Jeep back as bad as I hate it and for him to get another truck. He has determined that the Jeep works well for his job and has asked me to consider the 2020 Toyota 4Runner. We own a 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser that our only child drives(now 3 hours away). Other than the blind spots, it is perfect. I am a spoiled girl accustomed to bells and whistles. The main reason I didn't pursue a 4runner when the Enclave was bought was the remote start. I just don't want to live without it and I don't want to have to be 10 ft from the vehicle to get it to start.

Which package do you suggest and if we special order, what options are available? IE According to website 3rd row not available on TRD Pro (hubby's pic). Thanks so much!

Is this something I can get with it from Factory? We had an aftermarket Remote Start put on Jeep and it was a disaster.

Get the Offroad package. Very similar to the pro except for the suspension and a few aesthetic details. You can get a 3rd row seat and remote start from the factory if that's what you're after.

Can you elaborate on the aesthetic details or guide me where to find a list? That looks exactly like what I would want (color, rims and all). I do not like the roof racks and I gathered they come stock on the Pro.

Hi Jabkitts, welcome (I'm also new to the forum) We just bought a '19 TRD Off Road Premium for my wife and she loves it (replaced her Explorer). This level comes with a standard roof rack, and you can get running boards, and other options. Stopped by our local dealer and picked up their literature, and basically went back and told them what we were looking for. If you are in the market now, you could probably get a deal on a '19, since the '20's are coming out

The Pro is based off the Offroad package. All Pros start off as Offroads when they are built in Japan, then once they get to port here in the US, they replace the grill, badges, skid plate, put a 1" suspension lift on the front with different shocks, and different wheels and tires. Pro's also come with a unique color option each year.

All the main features are the same. However, the Pro's are only using certain Offroad models that don't have features like a 3rd row seat or KDSS (a suspension feature that helps with stability and cornering).

So you can get an Offroad with all the features you want and modify it to look like a pro for less money than actually buying a pro. The only caveat to this is that for all the money you put into an offroad, you won't get it back in resale, but if you buy a Pro and go to sell it, you will get a good amount of money back, assuming you don't put a bunch of money into it.

That makes perfect sense! So could I special order a pro and have a 3rd row seat and remote start?

I don't think they will do a pro with a 3rd row seat, but I'm not 100% certain on that.

You can get a factory remote start on it though.

I'd opt for the TRD off-road.

Doesn't the factory start shut engine off when you unlock your door to get into vehicle? This was the reason I didn't opt for the factory unit. I am having a compustar unit installed this weekend.

I don't know! That is an excellent question. I don't know the brand of the one we put on the Jeep in 2016 but it was truly a nightmare for me. We thought we were getting a factory one but that wasn't the case. It took a lot of work to make it so that we didn't have to carry a seperate keyfob. It didn't control any lights so if I started it from my office, I couldn't tell if it was running. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. Will the dealer install the Compustar?

The dealer here in Ohio installs an aftermarket remote start and it gets the same 3 yr/36k mile warranty. The unit I am getting has 2-way commincation meaning it lets me know if car started or not. It is aseparate FOB though. They also have an app that allows you to start car from anywhere. There is a yearly fee for the app though. I beleive when you initially get the app version, it includes a period of time for free.

Any idea of the monthly/annual cost for the app?

I will probably be purchasing mine at Toyota of Bristol (near the Bristol Speedway). They offer a lifetime warranty on powertrain if you purchase a new vehicle there. Our FJ has been a blessing.

I'm pretty sure the 3rd row seat is only available in the Limited or the SR5 Premium.

I have the Toyota factory remote start on my 4Runner. As has been mentioned, it shuts off the engine when you unlock the door, or after 10 minutes. At first, this was a minor annoyance to me. Now I don't even care... I'm used to it.

This. The Offroad’s and Pro’s aren’t offered with 3rd row.

Also, the Pro suspension doesn’t lift it an inch over the other models. The ground clearance is still 9.6” (as of 2019)

My apologies on the 3rd row thing. I thought they came on the ORP as well. My mistake.

Are you sure about the Pro not having a 1" lift in the front? I thought they were slightly taller.

Look at the brochure I attached in my post above. Page 25 lists the ground clearance for the models. It’s 9.6” across the board for the TRD OR’s and Pro, also the approach and departure angle are the same.

Did they used to be 1" taller when they ran Bilsteins?

What's interesting on the brochure you posted is that it says the overall height of the vehicle is 0.5" taller. That can't be a result of the Pro roof rack, right? That rack looks way taller than just 0.5".

Nope, always had the same ground clearance.

As for the roof rack, it does seem a lot taller

Ok, so I think I know where the height discrepancy is now.

The total overall height of the Pro's measure 0.5" taller. This is without the roof rack. Side note, the new roof rack measures roughly 7.5" tall.

The TRD struts that come with the Pro compensate for the 4runners lean by adding 0.5" to the drivers side. When they were using Bilsteins, there were 2 setting on the shock, one for the drivers side and the other for the passenger side. Not sure what the Fox shocks look like.

So that's where we get the taller overall height but with the same ground clearance numbers.

Just get the SR5 or Limited. It will be fine and you can make them look like a PRO if that is your choice and put on better equipment than a PRO comes with for thousands cheaper than a PRO. The SR5 and Limited are very capable vehicles.
