Hi there I needed some advice. I have a 2005 4runner approaching 150,000 miles. I have never changed the transmission fluid. As I followed the owners manual which never required to change the transmission fluid. Should I go ahead a change the fluid at this stage. I have been told not to do it because it might leave a lot of residue from the old oil. Its my understanding the atf is long life if that has any validity. Thanks for your assistance.

Welcome from Wisconsin! I would change it.. 150,000 miles is long life. get the vehicle warm when you change the trans. fluid, this 'suspends' any residue/particles in the oil, drain it, refill it, and you'll probably get another 150K out it!

Dealership service advisors are knowledgeable about fluid replacements and other service items needed on a 150k truck, costs nothing to hear what they say.
