My 2018 ORP with 51,000 miles got totaled(bent frame). Paid 38k new. Insurance company offered 33k. Did my research and went to battle. It took some time and work and settled on 44k. Nice to drive a vehicle 51,000miles over 3.5 years and get 6k more than I paid. Put it towards a 21 LR Pro. Had to pay 3k over MSRP. The 4Runner new and used car market is on fire right now.

When you say you did your research what did you do? What do you feel convinced them?

I'm guessing just pulling a few comps for sale, the used market is BONKERS right now. My girlfriend just bought a new car, was cheaper to get a brand new CRV Hybrid (I know, not a Toyota) compared with all the used ones we found - it's silly.

Show them some sales stats? The insurance adjuster is there to help you, but they have to make a dollar too. Negotiation is good. With the auto market like it is right now, it has either come back to haunt us, or, is going to come back and really haunt us. Congrats on the new ride. Post a pic. when you get it, thanx.

I used their methodology and process to value recent 4Runners "For Sale."

Ater compiling a list of 13 comparable vehicles, I created a spreadsheet using the same unreasonable adjustments to prices as them and came up with an average value of 47K. Next I kept it simple by only using their mileage adjustment. I located ten listings for 2018 ORP 4Runners, 5 with about 7K more miles and 5 with about 7k less miles to create a second spreadsheet. I adjusted the value of each vehicle using their mileage adjustment. The average value was 44k.
I send them the spreadsheets and screenshots of all the vehicles I used for my analysis. It took weeks but I kept discussions to a minimum and focused on the results of the spreadsheets which spoke for its self.

Yes that was at the very begining but it required a lot more work. All they want to do is talk using debatable criteria to negotiate based on their terms. I turned it around by removing debatable criteria and let the facts speak for themselves. See my reply to another member

Hold the f*ck on. You WON a battle with an insurance company? I didn't think this was possible. Way to go! Any tips or advice you learned from the experience would be cool to hear.

No, I was dealing with the other driver's insurance company. I never got my insurance company involved. I figured I am better off fighting my own battle and it paid off.

I'm in the process of doing the same thing..against the ' helping hands at allstate' in regards to repairing (not totaling) my 4 runner..It'll be done..and returned to me on monday or Tuesday. No Later. it's taken 10 days longer, due to Toyota sending the collision shop, the wrong suspension parts..and they had to re order..and the supply chain has been impacted by the pandemic..sadly. new passenger side front clip, bumper, headlight, parking light, radiator, hood, rim, and tire. BUT I end up with a almost new truck,persay...and quite frankly, the Pickens are slim out there in the 5-10k range...very slim....and I'm excited she is coming home soon...

no doubt, I'll turn the tables against those dorks. at this point, it's really not about the money...and yeah, it'll be nice having them cut me a cheque..but it's personal issue..doing the 'right' thing...which they seem to have a problem doing. They LOVE to take your payment(s) but they sure don't wanna pay out...

    Hey mouse,
Recently had an accident with my ‘96, damage looks very much like the damage you had. Can I ask what suspension parts and/or frame damage you had with yours? My insurance wants to total as well. I would like to repair and use as a secondary vehicle. Any details you can offer would be helpful.

    Thanks
