Has anyone attempted this mod? I called three Toyota dealers and each one said this could not be done due to the main wiring cable. I don't understand why the new Tacoma's and the Limited 4Runner have these options but not the other 4Runners. I like the idea of never removing the key FOB. Would be interested if anyone has information on this. Mahalo!

If it's not possible have you considered getting a limited instead?

Ive read that its not possible as well. Talked to the parts and Accessories department at Toyota and they said it can't be done either. I agree, used to have it in my limited rav4 before going to the 4runner and thats the one thing I really miss when having my hands full with items just being able to grab the door handle. I didn't like the styling of the limited's enough to go that route though, hopefully on the 6th gen 4runner they will offer it as an option to the lower models.

    Is plasti-dip a mod?!
I hated the push button start on the taco I had. Soooooo glad to get rid of that feature when I got the 4runner! I tried the opposite-to get rid of push button but it couldn’t be done, well, at least for $1100 it could and the electrical problems that would ensue.

Thanks for the info. I purchased a TRD Off-Road Premium and basically made it more than a Pro. I just cannot figure out why Toyota used a push start with the Taco and Limited, but not the others. I am very content with the Runner, just one item I wish I could change!

Hey, CO Bruddah, what can you tell me about the wheels/rims/running boards-step? Looking to do similar on my 2018 sr5p.

    Hey Erdos60,

I went with the 275 BFG KO2's since there was no requirement to modify the fenders. Ideally, the 285's look the best in my opinion, but they rub so I am content with the 275's for now. I went with the black matte 17" TRD wheels and the NFAB Nerf steps (2" radius not the 3").

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions. I am very happy with the look and glad I did not purchase the Pro

Hey, this is really close to the 4 runner I plan to order soon. I spoke with the dealer last weekend and he said it going to be tough finding a TRD OR Premium anytime soon in magnetic grey. I get the impression these only roll in to higher volume dealers a few times a year.

A couple of quick question for you:
    Did you get the sunroof?
Is your truck lifted at all?
Did the dealer do the rails and wheels? If so, did it add a bunch to the final number?
Did you do a full size spare, and if so, how is the fit under the rear?

Finally, am I understanding this correctly? There is not option for remote start in this vehicle?

Thank so much, sorry for all the questions, she’s a beauty!

    Aloha sobxals,

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it! It was definitely worth the wait and research to build it just the way I wanted. I will try to answer your questions as best as I can:

I did get the sunroof and worth it; this feature compelled me to purchase the OR Premium over the TRD Pro among other reasons
3" leveling lift, Bilstein 5100's on front and rear, diff drop kit, with coilovers and am very happy with the ride. (I actually ordered the OR Premium WITHOUT KDSS and so glad I did. You will save over $1800 for something you will not fully take advantage of if you lift any more than 1.5")
I had the GSM build the tires and wheels into the final price since he was a friend of a friend. I purchased the 275 KO2's with the black matte TRD wheels for $1200. I really wanted to do the 285's but you have to remove part of the fender to avoid rubbing. Maybe in the future but the 275's look great and I just can't imagine a better tire for the ride quality and aggressive look.
I installed the NFAB Nerf Steps myself; super easy only took 20 minutes
Have not purchased a 275 spare yet and I really need to.

You can get a remote starter after market but no option for push-button start even though the Taco and 4-Runner Limited have these options.

Hope that helped and let me know if you have any questions.

@bruddhaB when you say 5100s with coil overs, can you be more specific for a person that is new to this? What exact kit did you use and what setting on the 5100’s. Did you go 5100s on all 4 corners? I like the look of yours just wanted to know exact parts. Also, do you really need to do a diff drop? Most people talking 3” or less lift don’t mention diff drop. Also what width of the wheels and did you go with 275/70/17 tires? Does it ride smoother than factory on roads?

New here. I wanted to bump this thread and see if anyone has any experience with the Advanced Keys system and if they got it working on their 4Runner. Thanks.
