If your Check Engine light comes on, all the others come on too. TOYOTA (and other makers) turn off the traction control when there is an engine problem because it is considered more safe to do so. For example, if I have an evap leak, the engine computer will turn on all those lights. Even though the evap system has nothing to with the traction control and is not going to make the engine run badly.

You need to read your OBD2 port and give us the codes.

Any rodent-chewed wires in the engine compartment?

Check your gas cap too. Could be as simple as replacing it and clearing the code.

There was an extended warranty program that replaced the brake light switch attached to the brake pedal for this exact condition. Had the same issue on my 06 and replacing the brake light switch solved the problem.

Do the lights come on when you press the brake during your drive?

The lights come on once I put the car into drive or reverse and stay on. I am bringing it back to the mechanic who looked it over before I bought and will suggest a new break light switch to see if that does the trick. thank you for the solution. fingers crossed.

Sure. It drove me nuts for months until I got the postcard from Toyota in the mail. The switch is super cheap. Would be worth trying to see if it resolves the issue.
