The 06 4 Runner I have has a sunroof and it's not working the motor that was in there I thought was bad so I bought another one and it's still not working. When I hit the button it will drop some but not go down and back it's just making a machine gun sound when I push the button up or down. Can any one please help me with this problem and has any one had this problem before I hope it doesn't get more expensive to fix then just the motor. Thanks for the help and info.

Pretty sure this is common and something with the rails/slides aren’t working properly. Not sure if you can adjust them… mine is broken too and most people recommend just not using your sunroof. lol not an ideal solution but I think it is kind of expensive to fix

Thank you for the help I have seen it cost from $ 900 to $ 1,000 dollars to fix but it's worth it it's worth having in a 4 Runner

What i have learned about sun roofs and power windows, try hard not to use them as both are costly to get fixed just the parts are out of reach for many.

I have two with sun roofs and they remain closed.

Here's a TSB and the electrical schematic from the FSM in case they're helpful to anyone with a moon roof problem.

I had a problem with mine not stopping and grinding you had to get it just right by hitting the button or it wouldn't close you had to grab it and help it get past the stuck spot. I cleaned and greased the top which looked like it had never been done. As well as disconnected the battery so it could relearn where the opened and closed spots where. This is after I started taking it all apart and took half the headliner off. May not help you but this is just some advice.

This. I like to use it when driving slow in the mountains, but that's about it.

They are stupidly expensive to fix. The motor alone is more than $500, and some of the parts are discontinued.
