    Hey 4Runners,

I have a 2011 4Runner Limited with stock lift and 245/60/20’s on it. The wheels look too narrow and tucked up under the truck. How wide could I go and not get any rub. BTW, it has the factory aluminum alloy rims. Thanks guys and Gals I appreciate any help you can provide.

    Long story short,
I had a mild lift and 275/55R20. I didn't like a look overall and some of the scratches on the tire from curbs by my wife was concerning to me.

Then I swapped to 17 in TRD Offroad wheels with 285/70R17 tires. With lift already in place I only had to push the front fender line forward to clear the rubbing.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

If you’re going to stick with the stock wheel but want a wider tire so it doesn’t tuck under the vehicle, you only have one option: Install Spacers. This will give you the wheel poke that you want and you don’t have to change tires or wheels.

    What? That doesnt make sense...
You can have the tire flush with the fender flare WITHOUT spacers if you put a wider tire on the stock wheel. I dont recommend wheel spacers in any fashion for any reason.

OP, i have explained this a bunch of times on the forum but i'll try it again. I currently own, and have owned quite a few of these 5th gens with the OEM 20" wheels, and have also put them on 2 other vehicles, a Tacoma and a Tundra. I love the look of these wheels and they really look sharp with a more aggressive tire.

If you plan to keep it all stock, i mean box stock and dont want any rub you have a few options depending on how aggressive you want it to look, the bottom two being the more aggressive look. The 265/55 and 275/55 will both fit without rubbing and help fill the wheel well, the more aggressive tires having the side biters are what really make the tire look more aggressive. I personally prefer the General Grabber AT/x this is my favorite tire that will do everything you ask it to, and last longer than anything else as well.

If you want to level the front end, you can do 1.5" lift up front with a puck spacer and keep the OEM ride and level the front end out and fit a 275/55 and a 285/55. Both of these are nice and look real good and you have a TON of options in those two tires, pretty much every manufacturer makes tires in those sizes.

If you want to lift the front end past level, you can do a 2.5" lift up front with a puck lift or new shocks, this requires 1" lift in the rear to keep it level and then you can fit a 305/50-20 and THIS is the tire that REALLY makes the 4R with 20" wheels look tits. Everybody loves the way these things look when you put some real meat under them and you dont have to lift it to the sky to make them fit. All it takes is 2.5" up front and you can put these sweet meats under it.

First two pictures are a +1.5" up front and 285/55-20 BFG AT, i ran these a while and also ran the Generals on it like this too.

Last pictures are the +2.5" up front and +1" rear and 305/50-20 General Grabber AT/x. The 305/50 are only minimally taller, but they are so much wider you gotta lift it up a bit so your tires dont hit the fender or mud flaps. With the lifts listed you can clear the tires listed with the OEM mud flaps. Seems most times you gotta pin the passenger fender well forward, its easy and only takes a minute. I normally do both sides as soon as i get a vehicle because i put tires and lift on the day it comes home.
