Wait until you realize that, even with the V6, the 1st gen still had a much worse power to weight ratio than the 6th gen. ;)

You are so right, when are you trading in your slow underpowered ancient old outdated 5th gen for the 6th gen?

I watched an ABC video about China. FoxConn has a multi story factory there that makes IPads. There is netting extending out from the building on all four walls to catch people trying to commit suicide by jumping from the upper floors.

Surely in Mexico, workers for foreign firms are treated with the upmost respect in regards to their welfare, pay, health care, mental health and work place safety. It's basically turned into France in terms of workers' rights since the beginning of NAFTA, didn't you hear?

You're fixated on this concept that saying something positive of the 6th gen means you must be buying it. Why is this?

Or we could ask why is this that people are fixated to praise things they have no vested interest in or first hand experience with.

I know you didn’t actually ask that question, but I can be fairly literal sometimes. If the question wasn’t a rhetorical one, I’d say there are plenty of things in life that can be appreciated and praised without having a desire to buy, own, or do it. For example, I can love a Ferrari F40 for a million different reasons, think about it constantly, yet not want to buy one even if I had the money. I can love and appreciate certain musical styles and have no desire to become a musician.

In fact, I could even learn to appreciate and praise aspects of things I actually don’t like! But that’s borderline an actual skill to be able to do that. Some people think that’s hypocritical, but it’s not. For example, I appreciate that
many people in the world eat bugs. I would praise anyone that can collect and cook them to feed themselves and their family. They’re healthy when properly prepared, an abundant food source in many places, a good source of protein and fats, and probably go good with ketchup.

Would I eat a bowl full of crickets? Hell no!

Feel free to gather the abundant number of quotes from the 6th gen praisers have made fawning statements without ever owning one. Burden is on you, once again. Have fun sorting through it all, seems like you are good at using the multi-quote. LOL.

The 6th gen 4R is neither classical music nor an F40, in contrast it is very attainable to anyone who wants one, no need for millions of dollars or a life time of rigorous training to get into one. In fact I have been told here on numerous occasion the price increase from the 5th gen is reasonable and well worth it, given how everyone's 5th gen trade in values are sky high, the jump is minimal, I'm sure.

Given all the upside and virtually zero downside, the stampede of old timers trading theirs in and showing off their 25 or 26 MY units must be inbound any minute now.

By your own logic and my amazing multi quote skills, you would be selling your 5th gen because your are saying negative things about it calling it slow, a dinosaur and underpowered.

I'm just quoting the numerous 6th gen experts in deference to their expertise and experience on the matter.

You would know that if you pay attention to their eloquent, informative, and convincing posts instead of, what was it, on yeah, being fixated on me alone.

But hey, here we are, in a thread full of people with '24s talking about how great the 25 is. Nothing weird about that.

5 years ago I could have walked into a Toyota dealership and been very happy to drive home with a new Tacoma, Tundra, 4R, Sequoia, or Land Cruiser. I loved them all and put my money where my mouth was having purchased 4 new Tacomas, 4 new Tundras, and 2 new 4R's over the last 25 years. In retrospect, I really wish I bit the bullet at the time and bought a new '21 Sequoia Pro or LC Heritage as a forever vehicle.

I wouldn't touch anything new on a Toyota showroom floor right now. IMHO, every component of these new vehicles looks and feels like it was designed first and foremost to cut manufacturing costs. Everything looks and feels lighter, cheaper, and more disposable to me. Did they lower the MSRPs? No. Did performance meaningfully improve? No. Did off-road capabilities improve? No. Did aesthetics improve? No. Did safety or economy improve meaningfully? No. Did overall functionality improve? No.

I bought my wife a new 6.2l Silverado a few months ago and didn't even consider a new Tundra. It makes me sad. If I was ever going to get back in a brand new mid-size pickup I'd buy a Ranger Raptor. If I was ever going to buy a new SUV again I'd be cross shopping the GX and Ineos.

    RIP Toyota

Toyota has slowed the flow of the GX550 to a trickle at this point, there are 0 in stock within 150 miles of the SF Bay Area right now, and only 12 in transit. Something tells me they are not confident with it either else they won't be so slow to crank out units that sticker for upwards of 90k in some trims.

Yep. Here too. My preferred trim level would be a base Overtrail and I still haven't seen one in person and the handful that have hit area dealers over the last year have all been pre-sold. Toyota is definitely throttling production of them........ why? I'm not really sure. But i'd guess that protecting LC and 4R sales has something to do with it.

fed rules in the 80s vs now are completely different for crash worthiness.

if you didnt have all the crumple zones, deflection zones and what not to keep you safe in a crash, the vehicle would be a lot lighter.

add on top of that cafe standards, tailpipe emissions, and safety systems, those all add weight to implement those systems.

They are probably trying to protect Lexus from a big engine recall and taint the brand’s reliability.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 35 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 35yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
I appreciate the features the 6th gen offers, power, tech, modern styling but myself being old school my priorities are simplicity. I own one turbocharged vehicle but it is stone age(21yrs old) tech in comparison to the 6th gen. The main reason I bought a 5th gen before they were gone is it is pretty much a known long term quantity. If the 6th gen is attractive to you, go for it, but don’t berate the 5th gen.

Yes, but those were the days when vehicles were built and tuned for reliability and longevity. We did not buy a 4Runner for their performance or fuel economy.

You can compare, toyota has a 4 cylinder turbo that has the same power/torque and mpg and the dinosaur 4.0. So what are you gaining?. I'd love to own a 6th gen. But the build quality of toyota had been decreasing. And I. Extremely happy with my 5th gen

From what I've seen people say here, it feels a lot faster, yet the 465lb/ft I-forceMax LC250 is slower than the 5th gen, and I have not seen actual test data on a gas model 6th gen yet beyond "estimated" like Car and Driver or Motor Trend.

The other elephant in the room that seems to get lost in the discussion is the transmission. In previous cases I have seen, when vehicles with 3 to 4 liter NA v6 switch from 5 speeds to 8 speeds, there is typically a 15-20% improvement in acceleration to 60, such as in the cases of Dodge Charger/Challenger and Jeep Wrangler, where going from the W5A580 to ZF 8HP in the early 2010s lowered the 0-60 times from mid 7s to mid 6s. So it's hard to say if people's description of faster "feel" is due to the motor or the gearbox.

You're gaining a lot more usable torque. This might only be really meaningful to those who tow regularly.

I don't know if it's a lack of build quality, or what the problem is with the newer trucks. But, even if I really wanted one, I'd want to wait a year or two to see if they get everything straightened out.
