My 2006 4Runner has just over 133k miles on it. I replaced a the radiator, hoses, thermostat, fluid at 115k.

I have an issue with the tem perature gauge spiking after continuous thruway driving, and then slowing down for...construction, exiting...

The temp gauge returns to normal after picking up speed and crusing.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Replace the radiator cap, it is cheap insurance if you don't have a way to test it. If it is bad and doesn't hold pressure correctly it can cause overheating like you described.
