Do you regret "settling" for an SR5? (softex vs aftermarket like Clazzio)

For the life of me, I can't find a 2024 SR5 premium near me with the package and color I want. I mainly wanted the SR5P over the base SR5 for the softex seats, and I guess the heated steering wheel and the heated seats, but those aren't as important. I want silver, which seems to be really hard to find since everything nearby is white or sometimes black and underground.

Not only is the color posing a problem, but most anything I find also has a sunroof and 3rd row seating, which I don't need and don't really want to pay for. 3rd row I guess I can compromise since it folds completely into the floor and doesn't impact cargo space, but I don't want the reduced headroom of a sunroof.

So, long story short, did any of you run into similar issues and "settle" on an SR5 instead of the SR5P? If so, do you regret it?

I've debated just paying for Clazzio seat covers if I can only find cloth for my 4runner. Is it as good as softex though?

    Thanks

Clazzios are good. I have them in my Tundra. Katskins replace the cloth covers, but way more expensive.

Yes, definitely do not want Katzkins. Too expensive, and its a seat replacement not a seat cover, in the traditional sense.

I have a base SR5 and couldn’t be happier. It serves my purposes well and the seats are plenty comfortable. I don’t live in the ice or snow so having heated whatever doesn’t matter to me.

I feel like people upgrade for the “look at me” factor but to me, I just see someone who doesn’t spend their money wisely. There are so many aftermarket accessories and upgrades available, it’s silly to me to spend all that money for a label when you could just save the money and customize it the way you want to.

Of course, all the yuppies here badmouth SR5 base guys but that’s to be expected from superficial people who only care about appearances and what others think.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, that's my dilemma. Do I hold out and hope to find a premium or get the base SR5 and add the stuff I want on my own. All I really want are all weather floor mats, the blackout package, and then of course the softex. I can add those things afterwards if I get the SR5, but substituting Clazzio for Softex. I just don't know how much I'd miss the heated seats and steering wheel...I guess I'd miss the auto dimming mirror since base Sr5 doesnt have that either and that's how I tap in and run my dash cam. Where I live it get's over 100 regularly in the summer and lots of snow and cold in the winter..so heated stuff is nice in the winter and a sunroof gets almost 0 use since its always too hot or too cold haha.

Have you searched the Toyota website?
This says there are 99+ 4Runner SR5P's within 500 miles of DFW, where are you?
In DFW, dealers are doing mark downs and financing deals on non PRO models
    https://www.toyota.com/search-inventory/model/4runner/?salePending=false&zipcode=76054&trim[]=8646

    As for softex or cloth...
mine came with soft-tex, but I upgraded to leather...
    check these guys for katzkin,
they are in Canada and offer free shipping and no tax...plus you can customize them exactly how you want
    https://www.canadaseatskins.us/toyo...024-toyota-4runner-katzkin-leather-seats.html

    prices start at $1050
my upholstery shop said he would install them for $400, dealer said $600 to install and becomes part of the Toyota warranty...so I got the dealer to do mine

As someone that owns a TRDP with softex, it kinda sucks. It looks great when new but seems to always look dusty or white. I want Wet Okole covers.

You're half way through the 2024 year, so the available 4Runners that you want is getting smaller every day. Either settle/compromise or greatly expand your search area. Start searching out of state dealers if you have to. Most SR5/SR5P's are White & Silver. I'm not sure why, but when I've searched for them, those are the two colors that seem to pop up the most. A red or "underground" color is kind of rare.

I have a 40th Anniversary Edition, which is just an SR5P. It has the options you want (and one you don't). I have Softex, Heated seats, auto dimming mirror, Heated steering wheel and a sunroof. During the few months that it gets cold enough in Texas to use heated seats/heated steering wheel, I sure do appreciate it. The sunroof gets limited use because of how hot it gets. But the truck came with it, so I'm stuck.

I prefer the softex seats though. My Tacoma had them and they looked brand new after 2.5yrs of ownership. They wear really well and slowly.

Are you sure the SR5 is even available in Silver? I just messed around with the online build function at Toyota.com and got the impression silver is not an available color for SR5.

It probably reflects the choices of the regional distributor. There seems to be a heavy regional dependency on the availability of certain trim packages/options/colors. What is the norm in one region is sometimes nearly unavailable the next region over. (KDSS is a good example.)

You should also look at Autotrader.com When I punched in a few details for the PNW, I found 6 Silver SR5's. I picked the Seattle area and searched within 300 miles.

Strange, there must be differences in different parts of the country. I'm in SoCal, no silver on the build site in my area.

EDIT: I also tried an SR5 Premium build, same thing, no silver.

I went from a base TRD OR to a TRD OR premium and I'm liking the softex a lot more than I thought I would. The cloth wasn't bad but I find the softex more comfortable and it's ridiculously easy to clean.

I can't speak to longevity, but I love how fast and easy softex cleans. I can wipe off thick layers of fine UT and NM sand and dust in just one or two passes.

The third row does not technically fold flat *into* the floor. It folds “flat” on top of the floor. And flat is in quotes because when it’s folded, it’s much higher behind the front seats than it is at the back, so if you’re looking at it from the back, you’ll be looking uphill. The floorspace is the same, but the volume is less due to the higher floor. Make sure to look at one personally before compromising on the 3rd row option you don’t want.

Really??? I don’t recall seeing a post making fun of SR5 folks. And if they are, they should be ashamed of themselves.

My buddy @Stoney Ranger has the “Shitbox edition” SR5, and I would never make fun of him! :p

I wanted specifically SR5P because of the 3rd row seat option. I usually don’t care about the exterior color. Softex is cheap so you don’t miss too much. Really hot under the sun. I’m planning to add real leather when time comes. Heated seat and steering wheel can be negligible if you’re living in FL or GA but to me it’s a must.

Settle on the color and get the SR5P. Who cares if it’s silver or grey? Most of the time you’re sitting inside and honestly who cares what other people think?

I have a SR5 and have ZERO regrets. I wanted to customize mine the way I wanted it. The suspension/lift, tires, roof rack and rock rails were all the way I wanted it.

i purposely bought a new SR5 in 2011 just so i could mod/build it the way I wanted to. 167,000 miles later, she still makes me smile when I look at her.

I have the sr5p with softex and had cloth in my taco which i covered with clazzios. I will say the clazzio leather is much nicer and feels better.

Obviously replacing with katzkin would be optimal but for the price, can't beat the clazzio upgrade.

For the price of pros and orp trims, you would think toyota would be classier than this softex.

Can’t stand the Sr5’s Aiwa-looking silver interior trim. The UGLY stock rim, and the lack of more sophisticated off road features.

softex is suppose to wear extremely well.

all of the above makes the TRD ORP in the sweet spot for feature / value

I wonder if the clazzio affects the heated seat function. Did you have it on your SR5?

Leather sucks in my opinion. Hot and sticky in the summer, cold and slippery in the winter.
