Anyone have a 2022 4Runner with a rooftop tent? Curious what rack you use. My 4Runner comes with factory rack/siderails but thinking i might have to upgrade to something sturdier? I can't find the weight limits for the factory set up. thanks in advance.

You can absolutely use the factory rack - although I would upgrade the crossbars if only to get more mounting surface over the rack and a flat (not arched) surface to better interface with the bottom of the tent. I have seen tents in use with the factory crossbars but that seems janky to me.

Factory rack with aftermarket Inno crossbars and towers on my former 2019. I believe those are 48" crossbars:

Thanks. this is helpful to see/hear. I did just find this great resource too which i am digging into. https://trail4runner.com/2022/03/13/top-rooftop-tents-4runner/

how much does your tent weigh? my roofnest sparrow is around 130.

I am wondering if it is worth getting 4 cross bars on the factory side rails - increased surface area/weight distribution and getting flat bars rather than arched.

I don't have the tent anymore. I owned it for like 3 months and never liked it (explanation here: https://www.4runners.com/threads/re...at-ability-hump-2-vs-3-row.18328/#post-220323 ). IIRC it was around 120 pounds. That style of aluminum framed, folding canvas type are all pretty similar in weight.

You could run as many crossbars as you want I imagine but I think 2 is adequate. And yes, flat bars are the way to go as noted above.

I have a 22 ORP, first mod was Sherpa Crestone rack, which now has an iKamper Xcover tent on it.
