Hate to admit it, but the Ranger Raptor will destroy Taco/4R TRD Pro/Trailhunter sales

A fair response. I went through a good MBA school and heard the professor spin. Most of us rolled our eyes. But, if profit were the only driving force, Toyota would still be offering a powerful NA V8 engine or a turbo diesel in the Land Cruiser, 4Runner, GX, etc...and they would sell the crap out of them and make a ton of money. They can't because the primary stakeholder is telling them so.

I ackshually think a lot of these replies are paid trolls or bots
You can see some threads start having a TON of jeep lovers post back to back, now all this jargon about Ford ITT, especially repeated by the OP. I truly think this is a lot of paid promotion by manufacturers to steer consensus towards their brand.

You think the OP joined this site last year so that he could wait til May to start a thread on the Ranger Raptor? o_O

i dont think you understand how much of the internet is bots
if you dug into it you would find there are programs created, to create bots, then build a complete history (that is fake) so the bot posting looks like a real person.
If you visit [the other 4runner forum] you can clearly see how swamped that site is with advertisements right, well if you sift thru threads you can se TONS of replies that dont belong, like not even on topic or about a vehicle, by users who appear to be users with many posts. These are bots steering consensus towards brands.
The worst is places like R_d_it and Twi_t_r and F_c_b_ok et Al. They have SO many bots trying to steer how people think, paid for by different corporations and governments. It could be as simple as making you want to buy a brand, or be scared of another brand, or any one of a number of things. These bots have a real profile, you can glance at it and it has friends with other "people" and what looks like dialogue with other "people" but this is all made up and fake. The other 4runner forum has posts that are clearly bots and they appear to be normal users. I would not put it past there being tons of bots on this forum trying to steer toyota owners into looking into Ford or Nissan or Jeep.

Quite possible, but there are brand loyals who will spend every dime they have to shout at the top of every mountain and profess their love of their brand. Living in the south you can have all out brawls at family gatherings if someone says something against another persons favorite brand of vehicle. Some people will beat you with a 2x4 if you talk negatively about their brand of vehicle they love. Those are the people that will be online talking about their vehicle brand 14 hours a day and crapping all over everyone elses brand every chance they get. This is the innernet, you never know what you are gonna get.

I disagree. Government regulations dictate fuel economy and emissions. There's no way an N/A V8 is going to meet the standards. So, their choice is to conform to regulations, or sell nothing, which wouldn't be very profitable.

Well they could do it, but they would have to make it a low volume specialty vehicle like the Rubicon 392 so it gets offset by all the other vehicles they make. Toyota never seems to like doing those small batch one offs however :(

And as much as I am a loudmouthed, unashamed Japanese car fanatic..... If I'm gonna drive a V8, might as well go all the way and take American cast iron ;)

Not me, I actually like that the new 6th gen has a I4 turbo and good thing it's built in Japan still... but the price man that's my issue.

Apples to watermelons, but ask Airbus about building the A380. Airbus never has and never will make a profit on that airplane. While it would be nice to have the choice of a specialized vehicle that breaks some rules, I don't think that is in Toyota's plans.

They know they'd be making a killing using the N/A V6 and V8... but again, the EPA exists and also the EU! They have no choice honestly...

True they wont. Especially now that they discontinued them. There was a lot of speculation that Airbus just read the market wrong when they started developing the 380... they expected teh consolidation of hte hub and spoke air travel model to intensify and the 380s to be used for hte high volume "trunk" flights between international super hubs... but then things changed and the airlines started doing more direct flights and smaller routes as a marketing tactic and there just isnt as much demand for something that big. Not to mention how few airports worldwide can handle it.

But you more furndamental point is understood and agreed. Toyota is not the kind of company that tends to do one off, fun or halo projects just because. Everything they do has to make business sense.

Yeah Airbus did read the market wrong. But, the A320NEO family has been a HUGE success, especially the A321NEO (which I love so quiet and comfortable). Boeing has fallen off a cliff due to their corporate greed...

Is it Ford that is not able to figure out how to keep the front diffs from blowing up because of needle bearing for the last 20 years on their most popular pickup and SUVs? You know where the owners are expected to buy a ECGS bushing and have it instated to fix the issue? Oh wait....

Agreed. I used to always get a smile when the ticket said "equipment: Boeing xxx" But now I will go out of my way to book a flight that is NOT on a Boeing product. Ever since the 737Max debacles you couldn't pay me to step on one.

Its a shame as they where a true Engineers company founded by engineers, run by engineers, that promoted the virtue of impeccable engineering and quality. The Toyota of airplanes if you will. Then they bought McDonnell Douglas and the bean counters from MD took over and rotted the company from the inside out.

You disagreed...and then made my point...that the stakeholder is the reason why Toyota is no longer offering the V8, which has nothing to do with profits. I made a similar comment a page or two ago but, in long threads like this, ideas get lost in the commotion.

I just edited my post but my original comment was a while back to someone saying pure profit is the only consideration. I said no, stakeholders (i.e. government regulatiors) drive what is offered nowadays, not pure profits. After the constraints set forth by government, then a company tries to maximize profits as best they can considering the limitations. This was not always the case in business. There was a time when pure profit really did rule the day...where mills and factories would dump their waste into rivers and the like because that was the cheapest route for disposal.

We are in agreement, just focusing on different parts of the same argument.
