its sad but i must agree with this....
I have so desperately wanted the 89-95 pickup to be sold with the 2.8 turbo diesel here in the states so bad....

Look at the prices people are paying for these, its insane, one of those 92s sold for like 35k. These are 22RE gas burners, one of these in diesel would fetch an absolute premium i would be one of them....

Slightly off topic, but I’m guessing the dating scene was a bit of a minefield for you.

Our six most recent vehicles (all Toyotas) have been “no test drives” from the dealership, but they were cleaned, undercoated, and had a full tank of gas. They also know which “dealer adjustable” settings we like for some of the electronic goodies, and pre-set the radio stations.
Having said that, we are always the first to put them in 4-wheel drive.

I don't even know what this sentence means. Profit, revenue and equity hat are taken from the 10-k form ARE factual numbers. Its cash (dollars and Yen) in the bank, physical assets on the ground and value of Toyota's outstanding stock shares that can be traded and converted to cash. No amount of spin or "alternative facts" or whatever else you made up in your head changes that. No where did I state anything that is a "belief" I quoted publicly reported numbers from the audited financial statements with a link to the source.

If you have a source that disputes the validity of those number feel free to quote it and provide the reference, otherwise stop wasting peoples time and clogging the thread with pointless arguments.

If you just like Ford better, that is absolutely OK
. It really is. Nobody is challenging that, or asking you to justify that. Not sure why you are making such a thing of it, but oh well.....

I was just being playful, which was why I liked your post. However, you seem to be a part of the culture around here that wants to argue everything. I wish you the best.

It wasn't playful at all. It was argumentative. Did not understanding the difference have something to do with your old username being removed?

While we’re arguing about profits how do we feel about Toyota building a second factory in Mexico where, labor, land, construction and taxes are cheap but then selling their vehicles at a higher msrp then domestic made vehicles? No savings passed on to the consumer but Max profits for Toyota.

It might be Toyota reading the US market too. From what I gather from Australian content, the 70 series LCs are essentially work vehicles that are largely bought for commercial use like mining and agriculture.

With the popularity of luxury trucks in the US, I can see Toyota thinking there's a very limited market here for something like that.

Yup, some youtubers like Kirk are bringing this up that Mexican workers are getting paid $20 a day (12-hour shifts) and they are charging premium pricing like they're built in Austria. Hate to say it, but Toyota is going down the shitter and hope it hurts them. They're starting to behave like Boeing and just put profits over anything else.

The Tacoma has been made in Mexico for a long time. My '14 was. I think at least some of them have been going back to the 90s?? This is not a change that directly affects the per unit assembly cost of that Truck. Similarly the 6th gen T4R is being made in Japan same as the 5th gen - so again no direct per-unit assembly cost impact.

Further more, a LOT of the assembly and manufacturing is done by machine, direct hands on labor costs is a much smaller % of a modern vehicle than it was for a model T. There are also tons of other costs - parts acquisition, engineering, shipping of raw parts and finished vehicles, corporate overhead and marketing, warranty and "free" service costs, and on and on that go into the vehicle price.

Oh and you have the tax part backward. USA corporate income tax rate is 21%. Mexico corporate tax rate is 30%. I'm trying to find the figure for Japan and am seeing a lot of conflicting answers but the most commonly quoted figure is 30.6%.

Yeah I’m sure they built a new factory in Mexico to just to give Mexicans jobs not because it’s saving them a shit ton of money. :D

The purpose of a corporation is to maximize value for the shareholders.

Now some aim to do that through customer satisfaction, but never forget the end goal.

They should also try to keep repeat customers. These latest moves aren’t sitting well with a lot of owners except for the super fan bois.

The funny thing is all these Toyota haters are saying that adding turbos and building vehicles in Mexico is going to be the doom of Toyota....

.... Then they go rave the virtues of Ford. Which puts turbos in everything and has multiple plants in Mexico.

There is a definitive quality difference in the vehicles built stateside vs the vehicles built in Mexico. I had 2 3Rd gen Tacomas, one built in Mexico and one built in Texas. The Mexico built Tacoma had a lot of aesthetic problems, HP fuel pump issues, crank position sensors, and it burnt a valve bank at 52k miles. The Texas built Tacoma never had a problem aside from the front body mount bushings near the radiator support wearing out early, and the radiator support cracking due to the bushing wear.

I’ve noticed the same quality issues with my F150’s. My last 2023 3.5 Lariat F150was built in Mexico and had a ton of issues with bullshit stuff like the blower motor failing, lots of aesthetic problems, power window switches weren’t plugged in, broken clips in the dash and grille. So I ditched it and bought a Kentucky built Lariat with the 5.0 a couple months ago and it has no issues with any of the stuff the previous truck had.

The old phrase “you get what you pay for” applies to the manufacturers too. Low factory wages in Mexico doesn’t really instill confidence in me when purchasing a vehicle.

You obviously trade vehicles a lot more frequently than I do. My 2nd gen Taco was Mexico assembled and the only problems I ever had with it was a dash rattle I never could completely eliminate and that pesky 40mph drive train vibration they all suffered from. Other than that in the 9 years I owned it had nothing but oil changes and tires.

I'm not really sure how switching from Mexico assembled to Kentucky assembled had anything to do with your Ford blower motor. Thats just the final assembly plant - they are both sourcing the blower motor from the same parts supplier, and the assembler in Mexico would have to realllllly be trying to make it fail from screwing it in wrong.

FWIW, the blower motor went bad on my wife's 2017 Honda at only 4 years old... that car is assembled in Ohio and the motor is a Denso part made in Japan. So USA or Japan made is no universal guarantee either - a lot of these parts failing or not failing are due to engineering/design decisions and/or where the component parts are made. FWIW, I didn't say "f*** you Honda" over that as its a $40 part held in by 3 self tapping screws that you can get to by just lying on the floor of the passenger side. Took all of 15 minutes to swap in my driveway.

Would I prefer made in US or Japan all things being equal? Sure. But sometimes we don't have the choice on a specific model. This is still Toyota we are talking about and they still make all the employees follow the Toyota quality system regardless of location. They are also still designed entirely in the US and Japan and the difference in engineering between Ford and Toyota makes a much bigger difference then who is holding the wrench at the plant. Major problems like failing oil pumps, bearings and turbos are not typically happening because a lazy assembler forgot to torque a bolt properly or install a wiring plug (most of the assembly process steps used automated wrenches pre-set and electronic checks that make screwing that up impossible), they are happening due to fundamental design mistakes happening in the engineering center before it was even built.

The MBA spin is not people, planet, sustainability. That's the university professor spin who teaches the MBA courses. The MBA graduate understands that the old formula of shareholder above everything else no longer applies. You now have to account for stakeholders, which are not interested in profit. The largest stakeholder, by far, is government. If any MBA graduate came out of school thinking planet and sustainability was the focus, they should ask for a tuition refund.
