Is the Prinsu pro worth buying or should I just get the previous version?

I'm interested in your opinion. Please tell me why would you suggest these options.

***My biggest con is proprietary mounting for racks. (ex:gobi) their mount for an awning is $150-$200.

I love Westcott and their quality is top notch and customer service is some of the best I've ever experienced. I've heard the same with Sherpa. Depending on what accessories you're looking to get, you will have to buy mounts from any company. Sherpa may win out in that as Westcott doesn't offer much in that dept but other brands have worked with Westcott. Sherpa has their own and I believe others will work again too. Best bet is to decide what you want for accessories on your rack and go from there.

I installed my Sherpa 6 months ago.....the materials and construction are top quality and very premium.

I even had some slight install issues....that were immediately resolved by Sherpa. Their customer service has absolutely won me over and now has my loyalty.

The decision-maker for me was the Sherpa "rubber pads" that form a watertight seal (vs applying a bead of silicon) on the roof sleeves for the install.

That being said....Prinsu and Westcott also appear to be top-quality with great reputations.

Can speak to the Prinsu from personal experience, but have been happy with my Sherpa. I think my brother had trouble with their Prinsu. Company took care of them, but in the end he took my factory rack and put that on.

No experience with others but super happy with my Sherpa Crestone for all the reasons others have already mentioned. Have yet to find anything that I need to carry and which the Sherpa couldn't easily handle - had 16-sheets of flooring underlayment up there about a month ago without any trouble. I really like the fact that it is flat.

Hey, anybody here know of a rack that sits at the same height as the factory rails? The underground parking where I live is pretty tight.

The WD is 3.5" install height but assume that is similar to any of the low profile racks. They all look similar and I have not heard any negative reviews. Parking garage heights are a valid concern. With lift and steel rack I was too tall for some garages and went low profile.

Westcott also has a low pro version. If you don't need the modular that would take down the height a bit I believe.

Love my modular because I needed the floor insert. To my knowledge WD is only company that has this.

There is/was a set of the floorboards used near me recently that I was so close to pulling the trigger on ... I just don't know if I'd ever need them for my future goals ... but it was so hard not to get them

I selected the Prinsu Pro and just installed it last week. Looked around at other companies, and decided that the updated design was worth the investment.

I’m sure there are several competitive options that are just as good but I like the available options and mounts with Prinsu.

I would've got a Prinsu in hindsight. I got a victory 4x4 to save some money and regret it.

The lowest profile one I've seen is the Prospeed Rack - No personal experience with it, but a buddy has it on his GX and loves it.

I'm budgeting for the Westcott Lo Pro for myself...Their customer service is great, like someone else mentioned. I have their sliders and have been very pleased with the build quality.

ive had my crestone on for a few years. Working great so far. I have a heavy Roam box on top, maxpads and hi lift and lights front, back and sherpa Rock light mount pads on the sides. If your gonna get a crestone and plan to put alot on top I would suggest getting maybe 2 extra bars for stuff. Install was pretty simple.

It was hard to brackets that fit for an awning. I tried so many but this rack wasn't made to to accommodate a 270 degree awning which is what I wanted. I had to improvise.

IMG_3060.jpg I’ve got the UpTop Overland “Bravo” rack and am happy with it. If I were to get a “do over”, I would probably go with a Sherpa rack but no regrets with what I have and got a good deal on it when I purchased it a couple of years ago.

I’ve got a Harbor Freight “Apache” gun case mounted to it for most of my recovery gear and also have recovery boards there. It’s a solid rack.

    Cheers,
    Bob

I bought a Sherpa Crestone based on all the love here, but now wish I would have bought a Prinsu. I do like the rubber mounting system with the Sherpa and the material quality is top notch, but what I hate is the "T Nuts" that they use to fasten anything to the rack. The T Nuts are just an added expense to this already very expensive rack and they work with NONE of the included mounting hardware that comes with any mounting system you will buy for your rack, so you will have to buy 1/4 inch stainless hardware to mount everything to the rack. The mounting system designed with every other make of roof rack uses a slot in the cross rails and mounting bolts fit into the slots. Sherpa's design doesn't have the slots to use with mounting bolts, which is a real pain in the @$$ and the T Nuts suck.

Dont buy the stainless, especially in security fittings. The stuff is soft and will strip especially if its hex head. . I tried various other T nuts but the Crestone T nut seem abit unique, couldnt source them anywhere else. The bolts.. you can get these anywhere. Just get right length, most are 3/8 or more depending on how thick the mount is.

Heres common size bolts for Crestone T nuts
