Hey all, about 4 days ago, i started to get a clunk, or thump sound. It will go away, with some tourqe applied, like, if i get on the gas, OR lean on the brake pedal. It goes WITH rev/speed. Has anyone else heard of, or had this ?? I cant visibly see anything when crawling under, around it. If i rotate the drive shaft, there is a gear lashing clank. Anyone else have a clue what im talking about lol....
    TIA

So, this has been on going. I just dropped it off, at the same dealership this morning.

First time, i was told, the noise was coming from a lose bracket in my passenger door. When he called to tell me that, my head about exploded. I then, showed the manager the video via text, and told him "bro, its not some fucking bracket in a door panel". He wrote back a bit later, and said "whoa,... ya, that isnt it". He called a bit later, said "its done, come get it !" and told me that i had a "loose" rim. I shook my head, and went to pick it up. They charged 80 bones for the door thing, AND 80, to tighten the lugs. Which, was odd, as they where scheduled to rotate anyway. I paid it, went home to have a beer.
Started doing it hours later. I took it to fat bobs, and they couldnt REALLY diagnaose it, unless i started to pay. Which i didnt want to do, i was hoping they could just point me in a direction.Get it on a lift, run it, and go "bingo, there it is". As im just not the biggest fan of dealerships, because of situations im having now. But, they said Ujoints, cvs, they just dont know with out ripping into it. I said "but, 2018??" and dude just shrugged, and said, im sorry buddy, but, we just dunno. All good.

Dropped it off again, today. Guy (his name), the assistan service manager jumped in with me. Which, i thought was pretty rad, it was busy as shit. When it started, he looked at me wide eyed. I just looked at him and gave him the "no shit dude" look. They just called, and said, the FUEL after market rims,im runing, require a 120ft lbs of torque to "properly seat" the lugs. 120 sounds like a fucking metric TON to me, and now, ...
A- if this does remove/FIX the sound/vibration, cool beans, BUT, 120?? Now i see, broken/stretched to shit studs, and replacing entire hubs for ever and a day in my future.
B- anyone else with fuel rims, and lugs, have this fucking issue?
Why did it not do it the first couple weeks i had it, set around 78ftlbs ????? Why start then ?

Home boy on the phone ensured me all is fine, when i about dropped the phone at the 120ftlbs talk. I straight up said "jesus, ... you sure the OEM studs are happy about that ??" He said "oh yeah, we even did some research". And, he also said they are going to credit me back some money, which is dope, because i honestly feel, the 170 bucks, for work i didnt want/need done, and work that was scheduled for anyway, kinda bs. So that is dope. But, im heavily worried about my studs living past just one more rotation at 120lbs. What to do ????
    TIA all.

(writing this here, for when i hear about a broken stud when the dealer rotates, OR, i snap one off myself torqing to 120 when i get a flat or whatever, and im on here asking about hub replacements in the future)

120!!!!! the 4Runner is is supose to be at 85lb. 120 is usualy 7-8 lug trucks. And on the fuel warrenty page it states to torque to manual specs. My suggestion would be to stop going to your dealer, Toyota does not know how to service stock 4Runners much less modded ones. Go to a reputal 4x4 shop and have them look at it, yes it is pricey but most of the time they end up fixing everything the dealer broke or fixing an issue with modded 4x4s better than any dealer.

    FIXED...

Even when cranked down, and it dont make the noise, theres a "vibration" . I can feel it.

It started doing it again, about a week ago. I had to stand on the brakes to avoid a dude hitting me. I caught the entire thing on my dash cam. Anyway, that musta "jarred" something loose.
Took it in, and my 20k Toyota care was due.

Home boy found the lug nuts where to long, and went past the rim. Jesus h christ. We put some shorter ones on, and it drives like a dream. NO VIBRATION. NO FUCKING NOISE.
Charged me 30 bucks for a full set of lug nuts, and they ate the labor, (I dropped it off at 1145am, and drove it off the lot at 6pm) as they broke 11 studs all around trying to get the 120ftlb cranked on bastards off. I showed this tech the messages I had saved. He just shock his head, and apologized. In one of the messages, I told the service dude, "I feel for who ever has to work on that next time" .. we both giggled, and the tech walked off shaking his head laughing. Good times.

It feels soooo damn good to have this resolved. I was thinking about putting the runner up for sale, buying a complete new set of rims , all sorts of silly shit.

Done with this!!!! FOR GOOD!! Woot!!

120 ft lbs on lug nuts ? 80 ft lbs is the amount and NO air guns as those wheel studs are very soft.
you should post the dealerships name and do not ever go there again .. this will help people in your area.

you probably got them pissed off , so they did the 120 so you will not be alive and come back.
    120ft lbs is death ..

Oh man,.. no need to tell/convince me dude. I get it. Thats why i took pics, and such. And, in the end, they did get it resolved. Sooo....
Im just super stoked, its done, and done forever.

If you read my post, your guess is as good as mine mate. They did credit it all back to me (the other post) in the end.
Fact is, is that it was nothing to do with the 4runner, but, the aftermarket rims and install done incorrectly. Technically, they probably didnt have to credit me back, It was after market, non warranty shiz, but they did. And, although it took time, 3 times in fact, it did finally get resolved. Thank god.

i am with you though, why they would charge me anything, for any of that, is full retard. But, whatevs..... water under the bridge now.

Dam! Glad you got it solved. It is so hit or miss at these dealerships but it seems most of the time you get some monkey that has no clue what he is doing. Just ridiculous!

For example I have mine fluid filmed so everything under there is shiny. I had my last paid for oil change done. I always remove my RCI skid plate for them otherwise they just open the access door and get oil all over inside the dam skid. So moron spends an extra 1.5 hours (I'm like dang this oil change is taking a long time!) looking for an oil leak while wiping the fluid film off everything. Uhhhh, how about try asking the customer before being an idiot next time....anyway, the people these dealers hire are so hit or miss it's scary taking the vehicle to the dealer.

the dealership in my area ACTON TOYOTA has a high rating . every time I have gone there the waiting room is loaded with customers .. also sales personal are very helpful and they will get you a good deal on a vehicle purchase .

If a dealership did torque the wheels to 120 ft lbs this should be reported to Toyota corp.. and dealership name should be posted on forum , on how they did damage .many do not post the dealerships name and location when they messed up the vehicle.
