What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Just installed the TRD skid plate.

 

LOL My wife noticed mine about a month ago (cause I had backed into garage vs pulling in )& asked, "Did You put those letters on?" I laughed & told her that's part of the TRD Pro vs TRD OR I previously owned. P.S. I bought the current model 20-Nov-23. Women

 

Haha, I hope no one really cares what someone else thinks about their vehicles. And I am really trying not to be judgmental of those who may believe their model is superior. Different tastes, different desires, different money. I may or may not be adding the bronze lettering to my non 40th, I haven't decided yet. Not because I want to pretend I'm a 40th but because if I decide to do bronze wheels I like how it will tie them together. Same with the heritage grill, not to pretend I'm a Pro but because it looks way better imo.

@HuskerRunner I used to work in the custom parts industry and I've seen kids with little money buy what they can afford and be really hurt when someone shit on it. It bummed me out. Especially knowing that I used to look down on cheap parts when I was young and thoughtless with money to blow and was probably one of those people. I'm blessed I became aware of who I was being and changed how I showed up in a lot of ways. It's brought me a lot of peace and amazing things in life. Have a great day my friend

Funny. Mrs HR has said "ffs, just get it" about a few of my more frivolous mod wants, but thats a slippery slope. If I give up the highground for a wrap and powdercoat, you can bet an equal amount will go straight to Disney or some crap.

 

Haha, sounds a bit like my Mrs. At first, it was "only get one big mod a year so you aren't spending so much money". Then, after talking to her every day for months about what I'm going to buy next, she changed her tune to "just buy it already, I'm tired of hearing you talk about it"

 

The wife happened to be out in the driveway when the FedX truck pulled up with my new wheels. I just bought the 4R a month ago. She said what's he delivering? I said it must be the second set of wheels that came with the truck... Even better, the FedX driver looked right at her and said that new vehicles often come with two sets of wheels now, then turned and gave me a wink. Hilarious

 

I hear they also come with two grilles, valances, raptor lights, suspension (show her how it says “double” wishbone suspension, double means two.

I love the look. You can see it from intersections and whatnot so worth it to me. Plus it’ll protect it when I do the occasional off roading.

Upgraded my 2017 ORP to a 2024 ORP. I would have loved to get a 2025 but from experience I will never get the 1st year of a new model.

I almost did exactly what you described to my Tacoma. It was VooDoo blue and I was going to slap white or bronze wheels on it with the old school 4WheelDrive sticker on the tailgate.

Just getting around to posting this.
Carlink Wireless carplay adapter with Course Motorsports Charging cradle.
I had the Carplay adapter overheat on long trips listening to podcasts. Once I had to get in touch with them to reload software. Not bad support actually.
Anyhoo, So I designed a lil enclosure for it running a fan off the pass through USB port on it.
Tucked it all in and wired a USB-a to C cable with a power switch so I am not always charging the phone along with an angled USB plug for neatness.
Happy to send the print files to any with that adapter and a 3d printer.

Heat corrosion probably from hot lean exhaust.

 

Installed a TRD skid plate yesterday but wasn’t a fan of the now open gap that’s between the plate and the bumper. Seems to be the radiator/evap would get dirtier easier.

So I grabbed the stock plastic cover and modified it. I think this will work!!

If a legit PRO (not a poser like myself ) sees this, I’m curious how yours looks, would you post a pic? Is it just an open gap or does Toyota put a cover there?

Just used the 2 screws on the end. The center screw was kinda in the way. It worked but the plate was pressed against it so I just pulled the center one. You’ll see that in the pics.

 

I saw that after I replaced my Chinese made junk with original plastic one. I have never had a problem with the plastic one, but I change my own oil. I don't understand how it breaks. You don't actually tighten it after it seats. The O-ring contact is what seals. When it stops turning your done.I do synthetic grease my threads and it's good to do it by hand to make sure O-ring doesn't bind. The metal one was junk and filter didn't fit right. After it stops turning and is seated completely don't tighten with a wrench. My wrench has a couple slots that lock into the outside ribs on the side of filter housing that keeps it from slipping. Never an issue.

Oh she didn't believe it for a second. She just rolled her eyes at me... She knows I'm like a kid with a new toy and went through me upgrading my Tacoma for years. She thinks it's funny.

 

Nice. I considered doing that but it meant that oil changes would be harder to start and finish. Seeing that Toyota didn’t bother to install it on the Pro, I decided it must be ok. Even the instructions instruct to discard the plastic cover.

 

I wanted to clean up the uncovered bolts and tie downs in the cargo area, so I found these on Etsy for kind of cheap. It's a nit-picky thing, but I like a clean look (more items to follow to clean this area up by the way).
