I successfully installed the first kit in the world today that does not kill the engine when opening the door on a push to start 4Runner. Accessorides cracked the code once again! Enjoy!

Update: You do not need to wait 3 seconds to drive. You can get in, press the brake while shifting into drive or reverse and go. No wait time needed

As I said in your other post, with this system, you have to press and hold the brake pedal for 3 seconds before you can drive the vehicle. It takes less than three seconds to press the brake and start normally.

Find a solution that eliminates that altogether and it will be a win.

That is a fair comment. I have the owner of the install truck testing how quickly he can come off it asap and will follow up.

I'm not trying to knock what it is, but I think most people want to see a remote start system where you can just get in and go. I imagine some people may prefer this system over starting again, but I'll hold off till I can use the remote start, get in and go. It's just what I'm used to with previous vehicles and want the same convenience.

I wonder what AI prompt they used to get that image. "4Runner skipping across the water over a mountainous forest lake"?

They should be up on the site soon. I think the Tacoma is already open to presale.

Lol that is exactly right. Going for a higher click through rate with Chat GPT image. We will see if it works.

I've made dozens of other 5th Gen videos available on www.btwilliasgarage.com . Just new to this Forum

UPDATE: everything works perfectly as you all suggested it should behave if you just get to in and go.

I will have to read the instructions again, but maybe the waiting 3 seconds was a part of the setup process. I plan to ask Accessorides tomorrow

Can the user try hitting the brake and driving away without the key? That test was completely missing from the video and part (if not all) the reason that the vehicle usually shuts down. You can drive the push button without the key

Cool. I’ve had other push button vehicles with remote start that you had to push the button when you got in or it would shut down when you hit the brake. Another question is can it pass emissions tests if you’ve remote started it within the last 100 or so miles? The way my previous aftermarket remote starters on push button vehicles had implemented the remote start made the evap and emissions systems read as “not ready” for the first ~100 miles after remote starting. This should be easy to test on any decent code scanner. I use an Innova 5610 and it’ll tell me which systems are ready and which aren’t.

Sorry, not used to checking these notifications. The company as well as the donor 4Runner for the video both confirmed the SUV will not take off without the key. The engine shuts off as you would hope/expect. This is the perfect kit for push to start. I understand the concerns but seriously this is the one. Image attached from the donor truck who I do not know other than the 2 hours he was at my house for the install.

Will this work on a 2021 Limited in Canada. I would think yes but just want to make sure.

Yes, just be sure to pick your model on their website while ordering, but I assume it is the exact same. They will ensure you are sent the correct unit. There is one step that is required for steering wheels that do not lock while parked versus those that do. That change was done in late 2022, so yours should be the exact same as the video.

Okay, so my remote start with takeover kit got here today - pretty dang fast on the turnaround from date of order to delivery. I can't leave anything well enough alone, so I tore apart my dash as soon as I got home and installed it per the directions.

Remote start works, takeover works... HOWEVER - there is a big caveat here. On my 2020, I have the ignition lock; I have to depress the brake pedal a few seconds (2-3) in order for it to disengage before I can do anything. If I do not wait for the lock to disengage and attempt to shift into reverse, the vehicle shuts off.

Not the end of the world for me. The main reason I wanted the takeover version was to reduce the wear-and-tear on the starter with excessive starts (remote start, and then again to drive off).

    Edit to add:
I don't plan on using the remote start often. It'll get used when the car looks like an ice cube and in the summer to cool it off before I burn parts of my body I'd rather not burn.

That was quick! Thanks for adding your experience. So you left the loop wire uncut, right? It's the non locking that you cut it if I remember correctly. Hope that you enjoy it!

Correct, the instructions said NOT to cut the wire on 2020-Mid 2022. Mid 2022-2047 you cut. Although if you have a 2022, I'd suggest checking for lock by trying to turn the steering wheel while the vehicle is off.... just to be on the safe side.

I installed the kit w/takeover yesterday and it went pretty smooth for the most part. Where the printed directions they supply fell short (and they did), I used YouTube to take up the slack.

Works as designed! 3 clicks of the Lock button on my key fob, and she starts. Open door - stays running. 10/10

Small Panic moment: after starting the truck, I had all kinds of dash lights and "SERVICE SRS AIRBAG SEE DEALER" on my display. I ran inside and hooked up my scanner (techstream) and it had 2 codes B1650 & B1794 (IIRC). Something about the occupant detection system having a positive open. I was like SHOOT we pinched a wire or bent a pin on one of the connectors. I began sweating a little.:confused:

Until I remembered - I ALSO installed my Raptor lights at the same time as the remote start. It was nice out, and hey, lets knock out a few projects. Well, to do so, I had to find a fuse to tap into for the raptor light power. I had pulled a fuse in the underhood fusebox trying to find a circuit (spoiler alert - its easier to use the inside kick panel fuse box), and never reinstalled the fuse. You guessed it, the spot was labeled "ODS" (Occupant Detection System). Reinstalled 10amp fuse and everything is ok...WHEW!

Tl;dr - Loving the remote start w/takeover, and be careful when doing 2 electrical mods at one time!

Well, if it makes you feel better I’ve been going crazy tracking down a rattle at 40-50mph since installing mine. Read every thread and YouTube video on needle bearing issues and anything else I could find.

On my way to the dealer today, my son grabs his sunglasses out of the door panel pocket (the one by the handle). Sound went away. He left them there about 10 days ago.
