I have been driving the same area the whole time. The weather is pretty consistant here in San Francisco. im thinking it must be transmission related or I have heard that a bad thermostat could cause problems. seriously though 5 MPG difference seems like a lot.

Something has to be up, I get that gas mileage in my Hemi Dodge Ram Megacab 4WD. I am sure the rooftop tent isn't doing you any favors though.

I've notice a significant drop in my gas mileage on my three 4th gen 4Runners each winter when we are required by law to run oxy fuel. Hate that stuff!

My sons lifted Titan is about 12, my lofted 4 runner is 14.8, my wife and daughter drive RR sports they are just as bad. I thought the 4 runner would be a little better.

Same here. Usually, my wife gets 2-3 mpg less than my average.

I've only got about 1000 miles on it so far and the best I've seen was about 19 after very moderate highway. Hopefully, it'll get better but none of my older 4Runners did any better so I don't have a lot of hope. :)

About the best i can get, this is to work and back, city driving a lot as well. Im sooooo used to my Acura tsx, getting 37, with ac on, and driving it like i stole it......

Gotta admit, the mileage, and the absolutely ZERO balls it has, (big time with the 285s on it) is my ONLY complaint about this rig. It could use way more power, and another gear i think.
Not matter, i still love it.
I did see 18.2 on a easy, mello, cruise out to the boarder once. (this has around 7k on it, TRD off road)

You running stock size tires? Or? And how do you "drive on eco"? Isnt the eco just a light? It doesnt "add" milage, change shift points and such or anything.. just let's you know your getting better or not right? Or am I high?

Stock. Stock tires. It's called hypermiling. Roll to stops well away in front. Ease on the gas .keep the acceleration gauge under the solid square.
Rolling gently out of stops. Never hammering the engine until one has to. In a word...BORING...LOL A LOT of work to squeeze a mile or two. I drive in normally now Being retired I don't go somewhere every day. So why not just drive the truck??

Just returned from driving from the Seattle area to Boise and back in our 2018 4R. The route takes us over several mountains in the process. Drove the speed limit all the time (70 in Washington and Oregon) and a bit of 80 in Idaho.
My Tank Averages were between 21.5 and 22.0 mpg. I can imagine it would be much better if I was driving through the 'flat-lands'. Frankly all the negative comments about mileage have me puzzled. The odometer is now about 3500 miles. Clay

so I've only had my 2016 (has just over 21k on it) for two weeks now, 3 fill ups and I'm averaging 18-19.8mpg with mix of city driving and country roads. Only been on the highway for super short stints so up to 70 and right back down. This is all stock to. So be curious how good I can get it on the highway for an upcoming road trip. Right now with the same driving I'm about 3-4+ mpg better than my 2015 Tacoma I traded in for it (granted it was lifted on 33s and 6speed manual)

I have a 2010 SR5 with 135K miles. I get 19-20 consistently, regardless of season. Only thing that changes that is if I use 4WD.

1,000 miles still I got mine. Computer is right at 18.6mpg last rank was 19. Most of my driving right now is city with an occasional highway blast and some back roads. So pretty happy with it

At the time of purchase, with 192 miles on the odometer, my computer started out around 19.7 mpg. It's leveled off and holding consistently at 19.2, which I am assuming is for the entire history of the engine as I have never reset the computer mpg function since driving it off the lot. I'm using 87 octane for the most part.

    2018 sr5....I put on 1400 miles before mods....I averaged 18.2 mpg, 75% hwy/25% city

    Did a 3"/2" lift with 285's....put on about 600 miles....averaging 17.5 mpg....which I'm happy with as I thought it would decrease more...

I have been running my tires at 33 psi, which might be a little low.....going to try 36 psi and see if I get improved gas mileage....

City/Highway not accurate. 4runner sees much more highway than city.
