I just bought a 2023 4Runner Limited and am looking for running boards to add to it. Someone local is selling brand new boards off their 2023 SR5 (PN PT925-89140) but various Toyota parts sites say that PN isn't compatible with the Limited trim. Anyone know why not? Has anyone had luck installing them on a Limited?

I have a brand new set from my 2023 Limited that I just removed yesterday. Not sure where you’re located, or what shipping would be, but I’d be happy to look in to it and try to figure it out for you if it’s reasonable.

I am not sure the SR5 will fit a limited. If I remember correctly the hangers are longer for the limited running boards

I would double check this. I had Toyota running boards installed on our 2023 Limited (wife is short:)). I originally wanted the Trail Running Boards - and thought they would fit because they appeared to be available if you went to toyota.com, built a Limited, and looked at what OEM boards are available. However, when I went to my local dealer they ran my VIN number in their computer and it said the only Toyota running boards that would fit were the Black (Nightshade) Chrome Running Boards and the Running Boards w/ Chrome Detail. These are basically the exact same running boards except the Black Chrome running boards are all black - and the Running Boards Chrome Detail has shiny chrome on the sides. They told me the Trail Running boards would not fit the Limited due to the extra panel under the doors. I went with the Black Chrome Running Boards and am happy with them. They look/work good. They are covered with a nice durable/grippy rubber layer that I actually prefer to the cover on the Trail Boards (I had Trail Boards on the 2010 Tacoma TRD Sport that I had prior to the 4Runner). I would have preferred the Trail Boards as I think they look lower profile, and they were less expensive - but have been happy with the Black Chrome boards. I suspect that the Trail Boards would work fine with the brackets that come with the boards that are specifically for the Limited. I think the brackets for the Limited boards drop them down a bit more to clear the extra panel under the doors - but I think they mount in exactly the same place.

As many have said on here, if you have limited or TRD Sport edition, go with NFAB nerf steps if you’re looking for that predator style look. I love mine on my TRD Sport.

What's a 'Predator Style Look'? Or is it a name of a brand that sells side steps. I genuinely have no idea.

Predator steps are a Toyota product offered on a few trims. They are basically nerf bars with front and rear steps added. They are not sliders. In my opinion they are awkward to use. The steps aren’t ideally placed, and I can’t get a whole foot on the step without turning my foot sideways. YMMV. If
I were looking for running boards I’d get some that were full length.

So it's just a metal bar with two small steps to climb in. I bet alot of people would be hitting their shins on those step edges.

Yes. Go find one on a dealer lot with Predator steps and check it out.

I think I know what you are talking about now. I saw something similar in a parking lot on a bright neon green 4runner.
I have those OEM SR5 running boards. Super comfortable, plenty of space, can take as much weight and are durable. They do have a long chrome strip on their side but who cares

Yea it all depends on what you’re going for on your ride. My little tyke and short wife use the NFAB Nerf bars to climb in with no issues. I don’t need them personally. I like the look of nerf steps as opposed to running board style too. That’s what makes 4Runners so cool, customize however you want to fit your tastes as long as the bolts line up :)
