So after some heavy negotiations as to why we needed a 4Runner over the Rav4 we had, and why it HAD to be the Pro model, I was able to sell my wife on the idea of us getting it a few months ago.

After a couple delays on the expected arrival it finally made it to our lot and while I knew I would be happy, I was super thrilled that she was pumped upon seeing it in person. Up until now she had only really seen the Limited model, which she did not like at all, so I took a slight gamble and so far so good.

Having the Tundra and the Runner will make for some great driveway photos and the mods will slowly trickle through. I have to make sure to allow her to guide this one as the deal is, this will be hers and mine will be the Tundra... let's see how this adventure goes!

First Mod - Natural Light! It Burns!

Can't take baby home without tinting those front windows! I can't stand the unfinished look of leaving the front windows plane while the rear ones are dark. Also, I'm sure I'll be needing to also sing in her Runner when I get to drive it around!

Pictures look similar, but you will notice slightly darker glass on the front which now closely match the rear!

I believe it is 20% percent. It's the closest to a match the dealership has for us.

    Edited it is confirmed 20%.

Second Mod - These Boots Were Made for (Off)Roadin...

I wasn't keen on the look and reviews of the Nitto's that I had read, also my mental state required that both vehicles had the same tires so these got swapped before bringing the T4R home. It's still very quiet and I can't wait to get it out on some dirt to have some fun. I feel the more aggressive look of the KO2s kick it up a notch. Next to go, or soon to go are the running boards. They come standard on Canadian models, but they will become NFabs shortly. Already on order!

Third Mod - Turn Down For WHAT!?

So the wife and I thankfully share a similar taste and she agreed that the rear chrome had to go! She first wanted to black out the letting like the Pro stamping, but when I explained that white would pop vs the black surround and black would just hide it, she agreed to give it a go. After seeing the completed work, it seems we both agree the white on the lettering/logo was the right way.

More appearance mods on the way and then we'll see where it goes from there. She gets to lead the charge on this one.

That white emblem looks awesome. Now you got me wondering how a quicksand logo would look on mine...

I think it would look awesome!
It would match the prominent color so should balance out nicely against the black surround. Let me know if you attempt it!

Fourth Mod - Like em a Little Husky

So with the kids, dogs, camping and winters, I never feel like the stock liners cover enough area. Having a Husky already in the Tundra made the choice easy as to what I'd be doing in the 4Runner. Got the full set, plus cargo area. Once it warms up a little, I expect the curls will even out as they normally do.

Fifth Mod - Step Up! (Not The Movie)

The running board that came stock isn't one that we liked very much. It is hard to use even as a step, and I'm just not a big fan of the overall look. Not that there is anything wrong with it, my uncle likes the way it looks. (Seinfeld Joke) We decided for now we would match what is on the Tundra by going with the Nfab steps, since we could get them almost overnight and then once we build out the new Tundra, we will probably be ordering those sliders from #BAMF. I can happily also say I have created a monster as my wife has held firm that not only will she have the main say in what gets done on the T4R but that she wants to do the work herself, as much as possible!

Sixth Mod - When I Dip, You Dip, We Dip...

Following the learning trend, the next project my wifey wanted to tackle was dipping out the fenders. She wanted (I agreed) that blacking them out would help pull the side steps together and bring out a bit more of an aggressive look to the T4R. She plans on also doing the roof rails black, until we order up a Gobi (which currently is the plan for the future) and I think the TOYOTA on the grill she wants to do white like we did on the rear accents. All in all, I'm happy to see her attempting these things and has taken to the joy of modding as I have on my Tundra... our bank account otherwise has not been as happy... I guess keep that economy rolling though. o_O

Y'all are doing some great mods. The white black contrast is amazing.

Glad to find this post. This is my first Toyota and I have the Trail Premium and have done a few of the things you have. Still need to get the windows tinted. Maybe next week.

    NFab, KO2's & Husky liners.

I downsized from a Suburban Z71 and LOVE this 4R.

I love mine. I put them to the test as I live in the mountains above Golden,Co. Much better than the weather tech, which we have also had.

Having had both the Weathertech and the Husky's, I will say the Husky's fit and feel are both superior.

Yeah we just dipped them. Used it on my past trucks as well. Seems to hold up well.

Really like their feel and fit. I've used WeatherTech on my Tacoma, and they were also good. The Tundra Husky mats covered more of the rear leg area and went up under the seats which is why I first tried them out. Now having had them I'll probably stick with Husky moving forward.

    Seventh Mod - Glare Reduction

It's been a while since we've been able to tackle another project, so we just had to get something quick out of the way before some future plans to satisfy the itch. Weather here has rained just about every day off we've had, so its been frustrating to say the least and we've been trying to get the Tundra up to where we wanted before we could begin some projects on the 4Runner.

7 quick applications of some dip to the hood to get some more black on white contrast spread and to help soften the glare off the hood. I've noticed it had helped on the previous Tacoma and Tundra, so we liked the look and possibly benefit of doing it on Runner. First plan was just to keep it as a center strip, but it was easier to make the clean lines doing the full hood, so we MAY update the look, but for now we're going with this!

Yes sir! Rails are to be done hopefully "soon" as well actually. Ran out of time and next few days they are calling for... wait for it... more rain... so I'm probably just gonna end up removing them, bringing them indoors and blacking them out and then reinstalling. We want to eventually replace them with a Gobi rack.
Mirrors, we have been on the fence about. Some days we think black will be better, some days white. Will probably try it as worse case, it can just be peeled off.

On the Gobi: they dont ship direct to Canada. They sent me an email with the vendors who sell their products.

But Plastidip is great simply because it peels

Yeah I love the fact I can keep changing it when I want to.
I'll be shipping the Gobi to a friend in Michigan.

I had to do the same on our Tundra bed rack and RTT. Gives me a good reason to visit him more often and put him to work helping with the install lol.
