03 4runner hatch won't open

03 4runner sr5 4x4

I have a 03 4 runner rear hatch won't open using the button it does open no problem using the manual system inside tried a new fuse, hatch opened once, tried again and nothing.. pulled the negative side off the battery and it worked once as well, but tried again and nothing also checked the release button and it was good.. any suggestions ..
It does close and latch fine
