Left rear makes sound like an air compressor after car is shut off

hearing a weird sound on a 2022 4runner its coming from the left rear sounds like a small air compressor after the car is shut off is this normal

Yeah I posted the same after I brought mine home. Lol I thought the wagon was going to drive off on it’s own

 

What was it?

 

Normal EVAP test.

 

Not test but EVAP recycle pump keeps vapors from gas building up and escaping into atmosphere. It must be EPA requirement since all cars have them now.

 

There’s the noisy many minutes long EVAP cycle that happens about 5 hours after shutdown.
Not sure if this is what the OP is referring to, since he stated “after the car is shut off”.

 

Yes, I remember the first time I experienced this. Went out in the garage and heard the sound. I initially thought it was the fuel pump which freaked me out.

Our 2012 sequoia does it too.
