Cut both cats off replaced with straight pipe.
A few days ago i cut off both cats drove it around for a day waiting on pipe pieces it ran and drove fine. The next day i added a straight pipe to the muffler and when i picked it up from the tire shop on the drive home it was bad big loss of power rough acceleration and speed wouldnt go over 50mph. Im wondering if i need to put the cats back in not sure. car has over 250k 3.4lv6

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
I'm no exhaust pro, but I would say yes.
The ECU gets a lot of information from the sensor, I call them O2 sensors, but there's another name for the one before the cat. It helps the ECU set, and control, the correct mixture, so...

    Good luck!

Take it to a reputable muffler place in your town. Welding onto the thin-walled pipes that exhausts are made out of is a skill that takes a long time to learn to do well. Better to leave it to someone that's done it before. A LOT. I'm not half bad with arc welder, as well as MiG/TIG welders, and I won't even try to weld those thin little pipes.

In mine, I just got a Midas special, and it lasted more than 25 years. Then, they replaced it for free :D I love lifetime warranties!

All just my opinion, though. You do you. Just bear in mind, mufflers aren't generally something that just bolts on. They weld in, and like I said, unless you're good at welding the thin metal they're made of, it's best left to the pros. You'll probably need new sections of pipe in/out and around the new cats, so...

    Good luck!

I still have the original exhaust on my 2002...still wondering when it will give up the ghost.

But like was said, you need the cats for the O2/Air Fuel sensors. Hope the last shop didn't hack the harness on you.

Also, did you get the cats from the dealer and check with the dealer if you have O2 sensors or Air Fuel Sensors? You can't just put on whatever Autozone tells you fits. The ECU will be mighty confused if you put the wrong sensors in.
