While attempting to try out CD player in my 1986 4runner, it was accidentally placed through the Toyota dash trip section that covers the radio, lighter and ashtray. How do yo remove this piece of trim. I tried the two screws on the sides, but they do not remove the trim piece.

If my memory serves me right, I believe you have to remove the ashtray and the 3 screws that hold the metal ashtray “cage”.

Those are in addition to the two on the bottom at each side.

    Thanks! Dark Knight,

Yes, there are five, phillip, screws in total. The dash trim came off easily and I rescued the CD that had slipped through the cracks. However, there is some sort of attachment, that looks like a ground wire attached to the bottom of the ashtray and to some yet undetermined location. (A flashlight may solve the issue).

That ground wire is probably for the cigarette lighter plug to the right of the ash tray.
