Yakima MegaWarrior Basket/Rack Storage?

Roof rack is off for the winter so I can run through an occasional car wash to spray off the road salt, but planning to put it back on soon. It's a Yakima MegaWarrior Basket, so it's not the easiest thing to handle or store. However, I'll need to remove it frequently throughout the summer to haul two kayaks.

With a likely frequent desire to install/remove/install/remove the rack, does anyone have a good overhead rack lift/storage solution that solves this issue to share?

 

I sent my Venture through the car wash yesterday with the roof rack installed and did not have any issues.

 

I put mine in the garage rafters.

In the past I've also hung it from the rafters using 4 of those red bicycle hooks.

 

Let me ask this- is there any reason to keep it on at all? It sounds like the truck spends most of its time not using it.

 

I’ll find reasons to use it, but for now it’s mostly that I like how it looks!

Since my initial post, I’ve done more research and discovered that I can, in fact, mount the kayak haulers directly to the roof rack. Should be the easiest solution.
