Come on now, you know humans are incapable of thinking for themselves, let alone driving a complicated manually shifted vehicle.

Yeah, no shit. Hell I’d even sign a waiver from TMC that states that I’m responsible for my own actions.

I feel like its a bummer that Manuals are going away. All because people cant text drive and shift. lol we are only allowed 2. They need to figure out how to still be able to jump start your car by rolling it down the hill.

What?? If that's the case the 4runner could get even bigger.o_O

Honestly, though, my dream would be a modern version of the FJ80 Landcruisers.

Just like the MSM, taken completely out of context. I did not mean the 4Runner but the J201 concept as keeping the V8 hopes alive.
I'm sure the dream in Snow Flake land is a 4Runner badge on a FT-4X with a full EV or Hybrid option, 15 speed transmission, full safety sense, lane departure, self parking, self driving human transportation device for those that can't be bothered with the task of driving to and fro. It will even broadcast your latest twitter feed on a dash mounted touch screen monitor (w free wifi of course) you can detach and take into Starbucks with you. EDIT: Mods, the quote feature shouldn't allow editing by third parties.

    Wow!

    My post was half serious.

    I LOVED my '03 V8 4runner!

I was just pointing out the reality that Toyota will never put another V8 in a 4runner. And, that some ridiculous concept vehicle based on a $90K Lexus isn't really keeping the dream alive. At least, not for most of us.

And, if the snowflake comment was aimed at me, that's hilarious!

I disagree about letting 3rd parties edit quotes, though. It can make for some entertaining discussion.

EDIT: did I take you out of context again? If so, disregard most of this post.

No man I was laughing the whole time. Everyone takes most of my posts as serious, I guess I need to put some goofy memes in there. Most of my posts are so stupid and outlandish I just figure the comedy is inferred. Inferred? or implied? hmmm not sure. Snow flake is aimed at the people that Toyota thinks needs all the safety sense and the fact that the corporate world thinks none of us know how to drive. These decision makers should get out of a damn board room and the spa and actually see what people do with their vehicles. And yes, I've seen how you keep yourself entertained by honing your editing skills over the past several months lol.

That I don't know, you have me curious now. Toyota liked to change things midstream though, so who knows. This thing is heavily modded so it could've been done by the owner. Edit: It states in the description that it was retrofitted with earlier fenders and grills.

    Lol! I see now..

Yes, I have put my foot in my mouth a time or 2 lately. (Ok, probably more )

I agree about newer vehicles and the direction things seem to be going with vehicles. Many young folks don't seem interested in the driving experience. It seems like manufacturers are happy to accommodate them.

I personally love driving. I average 35-40K miles a year. I even enjoy driving to Florida and back to visit family and fish my ass off every winter, at 1378 miles each way.

I have taken the covid opportunity to replace flying with driving the last couple months when work started back. Drove Rentals to MD, Chicago, ATL in the last 2 months. Two weeks ago I drove my 5th gen to MS instead of a rental and just billed mileage in lieu of air fare. Then went into N. GA from MS and goofed around in the mountains for a couple days. I've Logged over 6k miles in the last 2 months.
So yea, you and I are a dying bread.

That sounds like a fun trip! Those mountains keep the trip interesting.

Those family road trips as a kid really stick with you! I have great memories of camping and traveling with family as a kid. It's a great way to see the country!

@Thatbassguy One of those Rentals was a Fusion with the 4cyl EcoBoost, so I do understand what the hype is all about though. I flat out kicked that thing in the ass a couple times. It would go north of 140 as quick as a Tarpon will shake your hook.

Oh, I would love to have something small and quick to zip around in on occasion!

Tarpon in a bucket list fish for me! One year I want to come down later in the spring and catch the run. Pine Island sound is supposed to beta hotspot, and we are on a canal that leads right into it.

Oh yea, spent many a day on Redfish Pass working on the South Seas resort (Captiva) after Charley went through back in 04'. The monsters are in Boca Grande, but Redfish has it's share. I've never landed one, but you damn sure know when they hit you. Snook stacked up under the docks there like fire wood too. Even had a baby Hammer head about 4" long come up and nibble on my toe one day. I haven't fished in forever. Working on the road all the time, I had to sell my Aquasport because it was getting neglected.

I fear they will ruin it with a turbo as well and who knows what other “Upgrades”. I just got rid of a 2016 Explorer for fear of the turbos going out as they all seem to between 70 and 100K. I know people are doggin on the 4runnner because it’s a 10 year old gen but I did just what you said 3 days ago, bought a 2021 before they ruin the reliability. Between that and my 2020 Tacoma vehicle life should be simpler for a long time.

Sorry to hear that! I've been fishing less the last few years as well. That's why I go nuts while I'm down there.

I could go on, but I'm way off topic.

Back to the subject at hand.

Outstanding. Now we just need to find the cell-service chip so we can yank it out so the truck can't be hacked over the internet. Oh, and figure out how to disable the automated emergency braking without turning it off every time you start up. Then we'd have more of the simplicity we deserve.

You have to remember that Toyota will figure out how to make it last. A turbo isn't automatically unreliable. Look a a Cummins diesel.

I have both and though I am used to the Tacoma 3.5 in the 2020 and don’t have any issues with it, the 4Runner does have a better setup in the 4.0. And they may well ruin the 4Runner in the same way.

@Singleminded You still haven't found that chip? lol
They've already ruined the T4R a little with all the safety sense crap. Cell phone distracted and stupid drivers, along with insurance companies have started to invade every ones lives whether we want to admit it or not. Magnuson can't release a SC for the 2020 because of the ECU changes, most likely because of safety sense nannies. So software crew is working on that one.
