So I have a 2016 4Runner that I bought in march of 2017. Out of the blue a week ago, my key fobs started to act up. I have to be pretty close to the car for them to work. I only used one this entire time of owning the car and figured the battery is just dead. When I tried the second key ( never used) same thing. Now I’m worried the sensor in the car is going. ANyone else have any issues like this?

Change the battery. I'm assuming the spare one is just dead from sitting around, kind of the same concept as "I never use my flashlight except in a power outage so why are these damn batteries dead???"

It’s the first thing I would eliminate before further debug. It’s the lowest hanging fruit.
