I say to try & find an in stock '19 new for a great deal (will cost about as much as a '18). They are out there. Good luck & keep us posted.

Yeah, Ive been going back and forth. One thing that holds me back is having a truck with a bed to haul stuff.

For extra cargo I see 3 option.
One: a hitch cargo carrier like this.
    Screenshot_20200127-195559_Chrome.jpg
The second: would be a bigger cargo roof rack. Tons of options and manufacturers.

Third: a small trailer, the T4R has 5k towing ability. A 5x8 trailer can hold a bunch of stuff!
Just my thoughts. Let us know what you decide!
P.S. There are a lot of former Taco owners here. I need diesels to plow snow & am 6'4! Lol

I factored that in too, a cheap single axel trailer can take care of this.

    Welcome to the forum!

I agree with this! I shopped for low mileage used 4runners, and the prices were so high that I went new.

Post pictures once you make a decision!

Welcome! Same here, I just traded in the access cab for a 4runner TE. I just took it off road this past weekend and I'm very happy with this level of performance from a stock vehicle.

Thanks for everyones advice. Probably gonna hold off on the T4R for now. My biggest factor is the ease of having a truck bed. I think having to run home to get a trailer would be a hassle.

For those of you that made the switch, any regret? I hardly use the bed of my Tacoma, long bed too, but the very few times I’ve used it for dirty items I love that I don’t worry about getting carpet dirty.
Keep going back and forth between keeping the Tacoma, and getting a 4runner:frustrated:

I had an '06 Tacoma and a '14 Tacoma before my 4Runner. I have no regrets.

I've rented a utility trailer for about $30 on two occasions in the 3 years since purchasing the 4Runner. I don't miss the truck bed at all. The added interior space of the 4Runner is much more useful for me.

    Good luck on your decision!

How often do you use the truck as a truck (if that makes sense). I would never not have a truck. I traded in my Tacoma for a Tundra. Now I have 2 4Runners and a Tundra. You'll take the Tundra out of my cold dead hands. I use it as a truck all the time though. If you only use it occasionally the 4Runner is more versatile.

Good luck in your decision. Honestly tough to go wrong with either.

I know a few folks who tried to transition from a pickup to a T4r and even tho they loved the 4r, they just weren't SUV types and went back to a pickup.

I’ve only used it a handful of times throughout the three years of ownership. I haven’t done anything with it that i couldn’t have done with a 4runner. The truck is laid off and I want a second vehicle, but don’t know if having two trucks essentially is the best. Ideally a 4Runner and a sports car would be the setup:burnrubber:

I had a 4Runner before, went to the Tacoma and now and wanting to go back into the 4Runner:bananadead:

Same! I had two 4runners and then bought a Tacoma. As much as I liked the Taco, the 4runner was more my style. I went back last January and I'm loving it!

    Do it!!

Well I pulled the trigger and picked up a certified pre-owned 2017 premium. Im still having anxiety about the versatility of having a bed. Ive been looking into getting a small 5X8 utility trailer but I have never towed.

I wouldn't worry about it. I thought I couldn't live without a truck and also bought a 5x8 trailer. Trailer only gets used for drywall or junk runs. everything else gets crammed into the hatch.
If you think you need the trailer often, don't cheap out. I did on my 1st one a harbor frieght look alike and it was trashed in 2 years with little use! Ended up with a nice one with steel walls and rails

I wouldn't exactly call pulling around a 5x8 trailer "towing"...you barely know it's back there. 4x8 here, it's easy to use.

Those small trailers do just fine behind the 4Runner and as glwood54 said it’s barely towing. None the less do yourself a favor OP and invest into a quality preferably aluminum trailer if you plan on highway or frequent use. Those Home Depot specials are good for around town but not much else. Been there done that... The higher quality trailers have stronger axels, better highway tires, and you can get longer/skinner trailers (4 x 10 for example). I don’t like wider trailers because they suck up more gas and in an emergency situation you know if your truck fits you have a statistically higher chance of your trailer fitting. I went from a Tacoma and you will enjoy it. I also have a aluminum cargo hitch so I have pretty the same capabilities as the Taco with a little extra work. And the 4Runner rides much better.

Depends if your in the snow belt with road salts. Had one long time ago because the wrangler only has 2k towing and trailer was 300 some.
First winter and it was toast, road salt and aluminum don't play well

I live in NY and they use a ton of salt. I have a 2010 Aluma that has held up extremely well considering I only wash it only a year. My axel has pitted and the aluminum rims have a little. I have seen steel trails disintegrate in three years without constant sanding and painting in my area. I am not saying they don’t corrode or pit but in my opinion the aluminum holds up much better, with less maintenance, and longer than steel.

Must use different chemicals or salts. Mine was an alumna and one winter it turned black and was all pitted. Steal one is few years old and only wash it after winter
