Hello fellow 4Runnians. Returning to this tried and true vehicle after selling our '99 limited back in '08. Been in Toyota's since but not a truck platform.

When looking for a replacement for our '09 Venza was thinking about a Tacoma but after extensive research sounds like quality control is on a downward trend and I really didn't "need" a truck and decided I really didn't want to give up interior space. Now we are proud owners of a '19 MGM Limited AWD...sorry no pics yet since picked up last night and was exhausted from starting the day at 0200.

Been tracking frame rust issues for Tacoma's and the T4R and was wondering if the A/C drain issue on the Tacoma affects the 5th gen. Those from the other side are likely quite familiar with this thread.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome. I’ve got a 16 LE like yours and am not aware of any AC drain rust issues. Just rust issues from salted roads

when I do the oil changes and fluid checks grease drive shafts I use a cold galv paint on the frame welds that rust. then the next day apply rustoleum black performance paint . 2016 runner and all is looking good . the rusted welds do require some wire brush work and then the paint.

on my 96 chev Impala the a/c drain hose was dumping the water on my O2 sensor pass side so I did do that mod to move the drain away from the O2 and frame area.. still have the car and no o2 sensor problems ..

the old runners surely did have huge frame rust ..

Appreciate the reply. Yeah, saw some pretty bad frame rust on some T4Rs during my research. What cold galv paint are you using?

Thanks for the welcome. Do you live in a coastal area or more inland?

I used to live a bit north of Tampa, it was home until '93. No rust concerns in that part of the country/state.

    Is plasti-dip a mod?!
I looked at this as a possible problem too, so I yanked off the heater hose I had put on my Tacoma and routed it on my 4runner. If there is an issue, mine is is good to go. The hose routs a little differently, but it works.

    I grew up in Tampa!

Not much rust issues but that damn salt air corrosion will tear some stuff up....
