Hi Everyone! This is my first post so I hope I am able to get some good help. So my 2008 Sport Edition 217K is starting to sputter on occasion. But I have noticed that it is happening more frequent. I tried fuel injection cleaner and changed the spark plugs. Seems like those repairs helped a little but are there any other issues I should try to check?

    Thanks,

Fuel filter since it seems to be fuel related if the cleaners help

Changed the air filter, that helped a little but when I cleaned the MAF Sensor that did the trick. My 4Runner got a great tune up in the process. Thanks for your help!

    What's the "MAF" sensor?

MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR, it is mounted on the intake tube prior to the throttle body. It measures the amount of air so the ECU can send the correct amount of fuel to the engine.

I'm still having the same issue after new air filter, spark plugs, injection cleaner and cleaned MAF and throttle body. The issue seems to happen around 1500 rpm. Slight stutter but if I accelerate the problem goes away. It is does not happen every time but in getting worse. Thanks again

Denso spark plugs. I will try to clean the MAF sensor again. The last time I used 4wd it seemed like my 4Runner was stuck in 4L and took several minutes for it to release back to 2H. Have you ever had this issue?

How difficult is it to replace the fuel filter? I think this is the next step in my diagnosis.

I replaced the PCV valve and it almost seems like the sputtering is worse. It only does it around 1000-1500 rpms

Check it with a computer for codes/data.

Revive an old ass thread here. If you never found the issue, ideas:

Stuttering going away with acceleration absolutely sounds like fuel filter. Probably replace that if you haven't.
Other ideas to throw up... Check upstream and downstream O2 sensors voltage. Check ignition coils. Don't think you need to jump to replacing throttle body but maybe spray some more cleaner in there, sometimes it can just be built up. Maybe a can of Seafoam, upper cylinder cleaner, or other gas tank additive.

As for being stuck in 4Lo, could also be a few things. Faulty switch, faulty transfer case actuator, loose electrical connection in the plug from the ECU, contaminated oil, loose chain...

Hello new here :) I'm having the same issue with my 07 SR5. Stutters around 35 -40 mph. Acceleration makes it go away but it started happening more often. I've had a tune up, fuel cap replaced (major vacuum seal leak), codes all cleared. She's running great other than that damn stutter that came back. Any ides for my next step?
