Yes, both LT285/70 and LT255/80 fits under the body. I had both sizes under before I have my dual swingout bumper now.

Even a 285/75/17 fits under there if you don't have KDSS.
With KDSS a 285/70/17 juuuust fits.

I'm curious what it takes to get a skinny 35 to fit down there. I'm thinking of moving to Mickey Thomson's Baja Boss 35x12.5 and modifying the spare tire area to fit a Baja Boss 255/85/17. These sizes within 0.1" in diameter according to Mickey Thompson.
Being a skinny 35 hopefully it wouldn't hang too low...

Since my 34x11" (285/75/17) Falken fits I don't think it would take much more to get a 34.6x10" to fit...

Edit: I already have the 80% rear bash bar. Just trying to hold off on welding up a tire carrier as well. I kind of like having that weight as low as possible in the factory location. Even if it kills a bit of departure angle...

This is the right tire size choice for these vehicles.

Just installed today, no lift, no cutting, no rubbing. If I ran even trd pro wheels that poke out 10mm farther, I'd probably rub at full lock.

So I decided to make the jump to pizza cutters and went to a Toyo Open Country AT3s for all 5 tires.

For reference sake, and because the details matter, my truck sits on an Eibach Stage 2 coilover lift, 2" up front and 1" in the rear, with a CornFed 1/4" spacer on the rear driver spring, an EIMKeith PCK. I love the look and the additional ground clearance. The wheels are OEM TRD and I have a set of 1" Borne wheel spacers, for those that may be interested. Just a bit of rub on the passenger body mount, but I am going to add Ironman UCA which adds back the lost 4 degrees of caster from the lift and should move the front wheel forward just enough to eliminate the rub and restore the factory alignment and wheel base.

2 things to consider; adding positive caster will help with alignment, but actually pulls the wheel back and will hurt your clearance. Still potentially worth it, but may want to lean towards an adjustable uca. 4* is a lot for a 2" lift.

Second, the wheel spacers are most likely the biggest factor causing rubbing issues. They make the wheel travel along an arc when turning, to the tire ends up farther forward and backwards at either lock. If you remove the spacers, im willing to bet the rubbing stops.

Looks great! That's exactly the setup that I'm going to have on my 4Runner, minus the wheel spacers.

I think you have it backwards though, adding a UCA with more caster will move the wheel rearwards, and actually make your rubbing worse. You may need to remove the wheel spacers to cure your rubbing.

Edit, I must have been typing this as admiral noodle posted, I didn't mean to copy his post.

255/80R17 E Load - They ride a lot nicer than the D Load BFG 275/70's I took off and they are quieter, too.

Good to know they ride good. I've narrowed it down to this tire, it's the lightest in this size and is snowflake rated.

Because as you say details matter for future readers.

I'm going down this rabbit hole now to see if factory TRD PRO will be able to run a 255/75/17 on TRD wheels/rims without any trimming.

I think I want the Firestone Destination X/Ts

255/75/17 is only about .5 in taller and .5 in narrower, that'll fit perfect. Actually the narrower tire will go really well on the 7-in wide TRD Pro wheel. Post pics when you do it!

I think the 255.75 is actually the only other tire size that'll fit without rubbing or any work at all.
