lol that is except why I ditched the bmw.. it had left me stranded a few times..

How easy is it to get under the front carpet? Remove seats and lift the carpet or is there other stuff that needs to be pulled?

I figure the transmission tunnel is a good source of noise too?

I did this recently and didn’t go overboard… just a few sections on inside of door panel and exterior door panel. I may do more if I notice more vibration after new speakers are in. I used Resonix

Remove seats and you have access to the entire carpet. You can then pull the parts to have access underneath it. Keep an eye on which rivet, plastic tab, bolts goes where.
You can do the entire car floor if you like but I am not sure I have that patience or if the effort equals the resultant benefit.
You are chasing unicorns if you are looking to completely quiten a 4runner.

If not, remove the vapor barrier and add it to the inside of the outside door panel. That's were all the vibrations come from. And you door will close like a Rolls Royce.

I just had someone comment on how solid the doors sounded. I have only done my doors, and was instantly satisfied with just the improvement when closing the door. I took on the project to put some backing behind my speakers when I installed new ones. Worth my time.

    Agreed.

I thinkthere was a website long ago called

Sounddeadenershowdown .. anyways he tested that you will get most of your resonance in panel dissapear once you cover an area of 25%

Anything over that adds weight and money

Why did you only cover the 4-5 areas of that door? Is there some specific reason? I’m curious what the 4-5 strips you got there actually do?

I didn't go crazy with it because I didn't want to add too much weight to the door. I will say that the door seems more solid now with what I did (2 sheets per front door, 1.75 sheets per rear door). I am going to listen to my stereo and possibly add more, if I feel they need it.

For what it's worth, I only did this because I upgraded my doors speakers and added an amp (more power that could cause vibration). I also never sound deadened a door before, but I did do an old Honda Civic hatchback area and regretted it because I put too much down.

You may start rust. Make sure you wash along the bottom of your doors. Those drains for water get clogged and it rusts along the seam. They are exposed to outside elements outside the weather stripping along the rocker panel. I would probably stick it to the back of the door panels on the dry inside of the door. That's why you buy a Lexus. Everything is a price point with Toyota and they have a lot now.

Gracias senor. The taco was TONS easier to pull apart in one session. The 4R will have to be done in sections. I replaced the speakers, so did the doors. I took out the 3rd row seats so did the rear floor. When i change the headliner will do the roof, etc.

Just a lot of bolts. Easy process though. What i can suggest to make it easier is to remove the front bolts first. I personally found it a bit frustrating to put the seat up and down again after taking out the rear bolts with them flopping around unhinged.

There's a few videos out there. I found i kept going back to this dude cuz he shows bolt placement well.

I like the idea of this but I've seen how flammable the soundproofing can be and that's scary if there's an accident or something.

Quality soundproof material is fire resistant and will actually prevent the spread of fire.

What types are best? I heard products like dynamat (while great for sound dampening) are highly flammable. Maybe that just used to be true and they've made improvements since then

I don't have specific recommendations but Amazon has a whole catalog.
I added some 6.5 mm under the hood to give the hood some body and improve heat absorption and the areas which have the sheet are about 20 degrees cooler than the
    ones that don't.
Remember 6.5 mm is to thick to add anywhere else on the car.

I did this last fall I think. Doors and hatch. It is better. Now I just hear tire noise and wind noise lol. Worth it if you do it yourself. I used the Amazon sound deadening stuff and siless liner

I used dynamat in my previous cars and it made a noticeable difference. Just trying to find some time to do this on my 4 Runner.

for the 4R I also used Amazon brand and the Siless foam. The foam makes a world of difference, just can't use it on the doors. The cards wont fit back on.

What’s this foam? So where did you apply the Amazon stuff (that’s what I have) vs. the foam?

Closed cell foam is the stuff you see from the manufacturer. The stuff that gets brittle and flakes, etc. But when used on the floor and ceiling, it's kinda a padding also. So i put that on top of the butyl sound deadening. For 2 layers of noise protection and cushion under the carpet. Overkill...... Maybe.

Interesting! Is there much point in putting sound deadening below the 3rd row area?

Depends on what you are trying to block out really. Exhaust noise and road noise for sound. And it will also act as insulation to a point. So depends on what you do or want the outcome to be.

Then yes, it does have it's purpose in the back. Stopping ANY reverberation will cut down on the noise level.
