I have a 2016 limited as part of getting rid of the front chrome pieces I picked up replacement black trim piece the one they fire right below the Toyota emblem. However the below piece that’s in the photo I cannot figure out how to get the chrome one off the bumper.

Do I really need to drop the bumper to remove the old piece? Is there trick to removing these? I almost contemplated cutting the old one and breaking it off and installing the new but now sure what it looks like behind and if I’ll do damage to the fastening mechanism for the new.

    Any help is appreciated!

What the OEM chrome piece? I don’t think so.

The new piece I bought? Not it’s not held on with tape it snaps in.

Can you take the radiator shroud off and reach in from there ? A lot of people said you have to take the bumper cover off to change out the front valance and I did it by just snaking my hand in from the bottom to reach the clips .
I took the radiator shroud off to help see and also to reach a few of the top ones .

    Which shroud you speak of?

The big black plastic shroud on top of the radiator. Just held on by push pins . Takes one minute.

Not the correct terminology. I instead of shroud I should have said top radiator cover .

When I switched out the front valance I used a pen light and a mechanics mirror to see the clips . Same white clips .
Some I could feel but had a tough time applying enough pressure with my fingers to get them to release.
Putting them back on was a breeze.

I’ll try the mirror - I have a mechanics mirror. I can feel the clip but can’t seem to apply enough pressure to get it to slide due to the angle I’m working…

This metal part is what makes me not be able to see the clips.. the clips are below it tucked at the ends..

Understand. Then it’s time to remove the front bumper cover or get the black overlays.
