Do you hand calculate your gas mileage too? My wife does when we take trips in my truck, the wish-o-meter is usually spot on.

I had read that the bolts are too long and can create an issue long term with the threads stripping. I just reused the bolts that came off the support bracket on the 4Runner. I’ll make sure they stay torqued and swap them if needed.

The bolts are not too long . The factory supplied the right size . The problem people run into is the holes are plugged with dirt and so when the bolt only goes in part way they think the bolt is too long .
Just run a bronze 38 caliber bore brush up through the holes a few times to clean out the threads . Do this and the bolts will go in all the way just like the factory wanted . Apply anti seize grease on the bolts and torque to 16.5 lbs . No stripped threads .

Too many to list & Worth every penny!
I definitely agree, the long bolts don’t make them strip. It’s the trash that is still in the threads that is the issue.
Bore brush or thread chaser will take care of this!

    Thanks Charlie, I concur!!!!

Agreed. I hand calculated my first 5 or 6 tanks and was always within 0.1 or less with the computer so I gave it up.

My wife checks the gas mileage from time to time. I have to explain to her that the Rav4 Hybrid she drives is a Betty car and men don't drive them, especially when they have a 4Runner.

    Ha!
My wife is rockin' a 20 y/o RX330 and I always feel a bit "funny" when I'm driving it around. Doesn't help that it's a "pretty" light blue.

Amazon... 5'x6' Avery Denison vinyl and a roll of 3m knifeless tape. After trashing three of the pre-cut pieces that cover just the scoop, i did this instead and it was much easier.

I tried to install the longer kit bolt in the two back holes but couldn’t tighten it all the way down. I’ll pick up a bore brush and give it another try soon.

After you brush them real good flush the holes out with break cleaner or something similar.

Re installed the original taillights with the older design. With a million of these on roads, the pre facelift 4runner is still a little rare.

Plenty of vids on how to do the knife less tape. Getting the lines straight was the hardest part but not difficult. Remove the "scoop", clean with alcohol, lay the tape (i used 3" painters tape as a guide to get a better line), lay the vinyl (Avery costs more but is easy to work with), pull the cutting string on the knife less and remove the excess.

Those old ones are my fave! Do you know if they'd be plug and play on a 2022? Or do the 2022 LED's make that not possible?

They should be plug and play. The size, clips and connectors are all the same. There is only 1 plug that connects to the lights so it should be a direct swap unless they changed the plug type in 2020+ models.

The 2022 has a separate bulb for reverse. Are you suggesting there's one for reverse and one for everything else?

I am saying that there is only 1 connector that connects to the back of the light that lights everything up.
The light has 3 bulbs, one each for brake, reverse and indicator but all three work through just that 1 connection.

Not certain but I don't think that's plug and play for a 2022, due to the separate connection for the reverse bulb.
