Is it down to the cords? It may just be a cosmetic cut from wheeling, etc.

Finally finished the transmission drain and fill from hell and need some advice. For anyone unfamiliar, there's an overflow plug you remove and as the manual puts it in these scientifically precise terms, "...wait until the overflow slows to a trickle..." then reinstall the overflow plug. It's annoying that they use such a subjective word but anyway, I waited until it was my idea of a trickle - still a solid stream about the diameter of a phone charging cord or a little less. But my glove was slick from the ATF (yes, WS) and I couldn't get the overflow plug seated. It was in but the threads weren't engaged if that makes sense. This went on for about 30 seconds and more ATF was coming out but obviously I couldn't see the stream any more. My take is that it's good b/c it can't have to be that precise or transmissions would be blowing up all over the place. At the same time, it's the transmission and I don't want any issues. Thoughts?

Also, FWIW, I did complete drain and fills at 114K and 218K. This is my first partial and I'm at 261K so it's been 53K miles since the fluid was new. I thought it looked pretty good. I may raise my interval to 60K or 70K.

Edit: Someone on another forum suggests changing the filter but I’m not too enthusiastic about dropping the pan, and people who have done it often say there’s not much there. Thoughts on that?

I just measure the amount of fluid that comes out and put that same amount back in.

Your idea of a "trickle" is still a stream to me, I think you're good to go.
The "filter" is not a filter, it's a metal screen, even if I were to drop the pan all I would do is clean it if needed, and all who I have read that did remove the screen said it looked fine, I wouldn't be concerned with leaving it as it is.

Not really today but the past few days I painted my CA raised sliders, installed a new fuel door, and installed a prinsu rack.
I opted for the truck bed coating spray paint from Harbor Freight. Seems like everything I've owned that was powder coated started chipping within 2 years so itll be an easy touch up.

A solid, often overlooked upgrade. It's almost like Toyota had a meeting and said, "Okay, we know the frames rust if you look at them sideways, now let's position the a/c condensation drain so it runs out right onto the frame!"

Discount Tire replaced my damaged passenger side front tire. Had the certificates so new tire was free except $44 to cover it against damage.

Didn’t really have a choice once I looked at it.

    IMG_1096.jpg

Scariest thing is that I have no idea how long I drove it like that. Lesson learned to inspect back of tires after offroading. I can’t imagine that happened on the street.

Good deal. Penetrating oil a for a few days before, say a few prayers and have plenty of motivational beverages nearby in a cooler.

My rear hatch glass shattered for seemingly no reason tonight. After doing some research, it sounds like it could be related to a bad connection for the defroster. Although I don’t think it was on at the time.. very strange, barely driving along and the thing went off like a gun lol

Damn, that's terrible. I've read the same... the connections on the defroster wires... can you find glass still?

    $517?!??

Same thing happened to my other 4runner when I was sitting in a Walmart parking lot, just randomly shattered. Thought someone threw a rock or shot a pellet driving by. I got it replaced for $175 back in 2019 in Houston, TX.

Interesting. Sounds like a good price
Perhaps @BassAckwards was paying Canadian pesos pricing? Maybe Texas was cheaper. What a great state, I got family from there. Hmm who was president in 2019 oh I remember

Oh dear, sounds like im getting hosed down on the price:bananadead:

I’m in TX also but west of the San Antonio area so there are fewer options. I should probably shop around but I just need this thing fixed as soon as possible. We rarely get rain but we’ve been getting showers almost daily lately.. Im also taking off work & driving 3hrs round trip to get it fixed so this has turned into a bit of an ordeal.. Just hoping I get a quality job now that I know I’m overpaying.. fingers crossed!

How funny I’m in San Antonio as well, right by the airport. I actually got my front windshield replaced last year and they came out to my place and did everything in a parking garage for around $185. The rain has been refreshing the past few days though! I would shop around for sure if you have time maybe around 410/ airport area even on the NE side by Converse/ Live Oak.
