clothes hanger hooks SUCK

Big Sky SBR-1G

Mounts to the cargo area coat hooks' internal nuts. No mods to the truck and very minimal mod to the rack which just includes drilling a larger hole.

I love mine! If you call Big Sky they sometimes have returns or scratched up bars that they will sell you for less.

This is my current one one in the GX (mounting plates are different between them but rack is the same). I remove the center section and replace it with a ski strap as I think it's cleaner and more low profile.

Yeha, My son lost the argument with his wife so this is what they consider camping now.

No concerns for hanging cloths.

 

Make sure you follow up with a little sticker that says "in case of emergency, brake glass"

Seems like a reasonable solution for folks who can afford a second mortgage.

 

I think OP is implying hanging clothing in the rear cargo area on the insufficient hooks, not in the back seats where the handles are.
I sometimes like to hang stuff at the back so my little kids can’t touch the clothes, or so passengers have space.

*I’m currently working on installing a new type of hook that holds hangars and such in place better. Not interested in molle back there or anything that spans across

How many clean, pressed shirts are you guys wanting to hang on that hook? Or are you hanging a big, heavy coat? Or something else?

I've been designing a replacement to fit that location (not necessarily for the dry cleaning), and now I'm more curious what uses other people have in mind. Maybe that'll change my design somewhat, and perhaps I can prototype it and a) let you guys be guinea pigs, and b) help us all out a bit.

 

I like your solution to the poor jack lift door issue.

 

If you are designing something i would make it as versatile as possible. I use mine to stick a light on, but it would be great if it could hold a heavy jacket or bag. A hook with a D ring would be sweet. Maybe it can take various attachments on top of just an improved hook? I would love to hang my small fan from it.

 

What kind of light or fan are you thinking of hanging? Got pics or specs you can share?
I have some ideas for a modular base, with easy-to-swap (or easy-to-adapt) features. Let’s chat! :^)

 

I can mod the fan or make some kind of mounting solution, which i have.

This is a great fan for air circulation, but many others have clamps. So maybe you can have something with surface area to clamp or double-sided tape to.

Those stainless shackles are sexy! For those who might want to try somthing similar, but not with identical hardware, can you tell us what the tread size of the threaded hole is? (Is it a threaded hole?)

 

Thanks dude, I agree the stainless is very nice. I’m test fitting non stainless hardware as well, and perhaps return the stainless to save a couple bucks, we’ll see.
(I also want to attempt to install a shouldered eyelet w/ shackle while keep the factory hook installed…other option on the table is ordering black FJ ceiling d-rings)


The threaded hole is standard M6! And there’s at least 2.5” of depth behind it, surprisingly.

 

Yea these are obviously heavy duty but I like the sizing. Almost any M6 fastener in the cargo area is overkill, google says M6 tensile strength starts at upwards of 1,100kg, some sources as high as 13-16k lbs. These shackles are rated above 20k lol)

I bought 1/2” (inner diameter) stainless shouldered eyelets from brand: Sea-Dog, with a large stainless M6 fender washer + lock washer. Then 1/2” flush-pin stainless shackles from brand Cruiser Hardware.

I think that rating assumes that the threaded eyelets are through-bolted and backed up by similarly rated nuts. In your case the eyelets are threaded into mild steel, and that is the weak link.
