Saw My First 6th Gen In Person

Even disregarding what it says on paper, I could not keep up with it when it was accelerating. It had that short term burst that our V6 just does not have.

I didn't read through the whole thread so it may have been said before... but thats giving me 4th gen 4runner vibes. As a 4th gen owner, i dig it!

 

Not sure if it's a bigger indictment on Toyota or the buyers....

 

Probably Toyota. The buyers probably either don't care, or they know they can get better tires.

 

Why Toyota if they know 4Runner buyers are by and large just commuters anyway and customers don't care? Sounds like overall Toyota knows their customers won't notice the difference enough to care.

 

I’ve seen a few on the roads and two at the dealership but haven’t been up close to one. Went to Waffle House tonight and saw a red Limited sitting by itself so had to park next to it lol. Just doing a quick walk around the 5th gen seems wider side by side (the angle of the pic exaggerates it a little) but the looks are growing on me. The front bottom valence needs to go though IMO

On paper the 6th gen is wider, but its really the track width. The fender flares stick out past the door skin like 4-5"
Inside, door panel to door panel the 6th gen is about -1.8" narrower than the 5th gen.
Inside, outside of front seat lip to seat lip on the 6th gen is about -1.2" narrower than the 5th gen.
When you sit in a 6th gen it definitely feels different and smaller, even though on paper it measures +2.1" wider.

Hard to criticize Gen6 styling too much because Gen5 is a mixed bag. You can tell they’re related b/c both can look handsome from one angle, and from another, maybe not so much.

That’s why Gen3 remains the standard benchmark of what a proper 4Runner should always look like. Proportions, details, stance, everything’s easy on the eyes, from every angle. Just scale that design out for Gen7 please.

 

I saw a 6th gen (Underground) in North Carolina yesterday.

From ten yards or so, it wasn’t super ugly, but it had potential to be. What stood out to me, though, was that the turn signals glowed red instead of amber. I just hate that….

 

I parked next a guy with a TRD Sport. He had it for 3 days when I talked to him. Still not sure if would take the plunge for that money. I already overpaid for my Covid buy of my 2019.

 

Exactly. Why can they not just do this.

 

Because Toyota no longer runs to maintain its previous buyers who don't buy new cars often enough, for more profit they need new buyers who regularly trade in their cars, and those buyers they want to attract consider 3rd gen era of car design too boomer. People who prefer the 3rd gen are those who like to stick with what ain't broken, and that's not as profitable to Toyota as buyers who chase trends.

Yeah that double stash is not a good look imo. I’m sure they’ll do a facelift within a year or two

 

Don’t the headlights appear to be spaced and angled further apart. Ya don’t get me started on the pronounced double moustache - it’s so unnecessary, why do that. Again, the 3rd Gen was simple and clean and they’ve done way too much since.

Yes! It looks like it had a bad facelift that pulled the eyes back too tight.

On the 3rd gen, I'll say the earlier ones are very clean, the refreshed ones with the "fat lip" protruding front bumper a little less so.

IMO, the 2nd gen had the best styling of them all.

What’s not a joking matter is the design and sizing choices of new model vehicles !

 

That was Toyotas normal cadence for the 4Runner up until then.

 

Their facelifts are typically relatively minor, often just a chrome grill. The 2014 MY facelift was a fairly major one, much more involved than the usual mid cycle face lift

 

The red 2025 4runner pre-owned doesn't look to bad. It has a little over 800 miles, only for $54,000. People are starting to trade them in.

 

Has anybody had the opportunity to measure the distance of the hoods 5th gen versus 6th gen? It looks massive on the 6th in the picture above, The A-pillar is much more angled too, so it might just be an optical illusion.
