Whats up guys, new to the forum and need some suggestions. I have a 2018 Sr5 and am planning on buying the 3” toytech ultimate, and for my wheels i wanna go with the 17” TRD pros on 275/70/17 bfg ko2’s. My question is will there be rubbing with the 275’s or should i go with 265’s? Also my lift takes 3 weeks to come in and rims n tires i can get next week. Will the 275 tires and 17” rims fit at stock height if i put the wheels on first before my lift? Or should i just wait the 3wreks for the lift to come in????

    Good morning!!!
We have seen great success with that kit, tire size, and wheel fitment. We have, however, seen most people run the 1.25'' wheel spacers to insure proper clearance on the UCA and cab mount.
We do recommend doing test fitting with your local tire shop to insure proper size fitting the first time without any issues.

Let us know if there are any other questions!

Would you recomend putting on lift first before putting on the 17” rims and tires?

The wheels and tires should fit with minimal / possibly no rubbing as is. Add in the lift and they will fit fine. I disagree with Toytec's suggestion of adding 1.25" spacers to the wheels, not necessary on the TRD Pro wheels.

You should be fine, just be careful on rubbing.

IMO honestly I would wait for the lift to get installed since the front end geometry will change a bit. It would suck to get the tires and wheels mounted up only to have slight rubbing issues that will drive you crazy for 2.5 weeks until your lift arrives. Or you trim some fender to remove the rubbing issue and then find out post lift you never had to trim in the first place.

As far as needing spacers, definitely wait until it lifted and do your test fitting before you consider spacers. Another IMO here but spacers are NOT the "end of the world" as the interwebz make it out to be. Quality hub-centric spacers work just fine for what they are designed for. My 2nd gen Tacoma has run both 1.25" spacers and currently sits on .75" spacers going on 11yrs now. Zero issues, no per-mature wheel bearing wear and so on. So if you find yourself needing spacers look into 1) Spidertrax, or 2) BORA. Both build hub-centric spacers for Toyota's.

Also I should note that our 2018 4r has 275/70R17 tires on it with a 1.5" lift coil spring on the front only to level it out while running 17x8.5" ICON Alpha wheels. Even with the front brought up 1.5"s I was rubbing on the front of the fender.

I did the exact thing you are doing (or already did), so here is your answer:

I have 275/70/17 K02s. When I bought the truck it had 2 inch spacers (not a suspension lift). The front tires rubbed with this configuration.

On a stock 4runner with no lift, size 275/70/17, of course the BFG K02s will rub.

With the 2 inch spacers I mentioned above, which were on my truck initially, the front tire will rub when turned inward; the rubbing will be the edge of the K02s tread pattern on the truck's inner wheel well. Nothing major but quite loud.

I changed the kit for a 3 inch Toytec Lift (mine is the Toytec Boss w/Superflex Heavy Duty Rear Coils); with this lift there is no rubbing with the KO2 275s.

The above is fact, the following is conjecture:

With the 3 inch lift I have, it is possible to go to 285s with no rubbing, given that 285s add only .4 inches to wheel height. Again, this is conjecture, but the lift gives a lot of clearance with respect to the current 275 tire size.

For future potential size answers (that is: can one go to 295s, 305s on a 3 inch Toytec lift?), I will be able to give a littler more insight, as I'm installing the Shrockworks front bumper which may open up some space over the front tires after the lower part of the front bumper is removed. At the same time that the front bumper is installed, I'm adding 1.25 inch Spidertrax spacers. My hunch is that I might be able to get to 295s with no rubbing, however, that is for the front, and, again, is just conjecture and not yet verified. Even if it doesn't rub at this tire height, there is always the rear to think about, too. That still may need a body mount chop.

I put on the Toytech 3” suspension Bilstein lift and went with stock size 265/70/17 Cooper Discoverer STT because Cooper had no 275’s in that tire, no rubbing at all. Here is a pic

Did they end up rubbing at all with stock size while waiting for your lift?

How much does 285/75r17 add to the wheel height? I installed 3" Toytec boss lift on my 2014 T4R thats only 2WD. It sits about 1-1.5" higher than a 4WD rig with that same lift. I am wondering if I can go up to 34" tires without having to do any body mount chop?

yes it will CERTAINLY fit for sure w/o any rubbing. I have a gray 2016 SR5 Premium 4x4 w/ 17x7" TRD wheel and had just installed a 3" leveling/lift kit from Rough Country. the 285/70R17 may or may not rub even w/ a 3" lift but a 275/70R17 definitely WON'T for sure

try to find 275/70R17 in other brands. BFGoodrich KO2 is the most popular among 4runner owners

THIS IS AN EDIT TO MY ORIGINAL RESPONSE:

...I originally calculated wheel height change using 275 vs. 285/70/17. The poster wanted the change in height from 265/70/17 vs. 285/75/17 and not the one I did. Here is the correct calculation:

...when going from a 265/70/17 to a 285/75/17 you will gain ~2.22 inches of height.

...I am going to keep my original post with original calculations (below) given that many tend to have a similar question, but using 275/70s

    ................................................................................
    ................................................................................

On BFG K02s, going from 275/70/17 to 285 gives another ~0.57 inches of height. The 3-inch lift helps with 275s, getting rid of rubbing (remove the mud flaps, too), but you may see some inside rubbing with any tire that's larger than that. That information comes from a 2017 TRD Pro.

I'd suspect a 34-inch tire will have a high probability of causing rub. I'm taking my truck in (today as a matter of fact) to switch my Toytec 3" lift for the Icon Stage 7 with secondary shocks. Icon advertises that this lift (it's a 3.5-inch lift) will be good enough for 33-inch tires (note that they didn't say 34-inch). With my tires I'm going from my BFG 275s to Nitto 295s, which is ~33.26 inches; my 4x4 shop advised me not to go to the 295s, and wanted me to stay with 285s. However, I will still install the 295s, and am okay doing a body mount chop if need be. Once I have the truck back in a week (remind me if I forget) I will let you know if I get rubbing, without a body mount chop. To be fair, however, so that you know we are not necessarily comparing apples to apples here, I have the Shrockworks front bumper, which removes a lot of stock bumper space from the front end. If I have rubbing it will be the back of the wheel well; again, I will let you know.

with 285/75R17 you will VERY likely need a BMC. Same with 295 tires. Those are 33"+ tire size. To avoid a BMC w/ or w/o a lift is best to go no larger than 32.2" tires aka 275/70R17

Spot on: with 275/70/17 tires on my truck I had no rub with a 3-inch/Toytec lift (stock front end).

On my truck I now have the Shrockworks front bumper, which required a lot of cutting away of the stock, front bumper. (This gives the front tires more space, and less opportunity for rubbing.)

When I say “stock front end” I’m referring to the time when the front bumper was not yet cut away.

    Hope this helps.
