I’m about 99% sure this is normal but wanted to double check.

Installed a TRD intake on an 18 TRDORP a couple weekends ago, went great sounds awesome. Yesterday I switched the stock paper filter for an AFE Pro Dry and am noticing a slight “whistle” at lower RPMs (basically right when I accelerate.

I’m pretty confident it’s normal, I did plug the hole in the side and used silicone for the bottom opening.

    Thanks!

Check that everything is tight. I don’t get a whistle with mine.

I’ll go double check the lid as I just had it off too. Are you using the oem paper filter or a reusable one? I don’t remember hearing it with the paper one

I am using the OEM paper for now, the lid is a pain in the butt sometimes to snap on. Overall I really like the set up, I put a borla cat back on also, the combo sounds great.

I’m going to put the paper one back in, I’m thinking it’s more likely it’s the AFE filter now flowing better. Ya I found it easier to loosen a clamp on the filter top side and the throttle body side to get it off and on easier haha

Update.... I added some silicone around the bottom again just to see if that helps but also noticed the little filter checker wasn’t pushed all the way down... that might have been the cause?

I have the same setup as you (w/AFE Pro Dry) and mine doesn't whistle.

Just ordered the TRD Intake. It does not come with a TRD high flow filter?

This is an older thread but I just wanted to weigh in and report my TRD Intake does indeed whistle while in second and third gear around 2,000 RPM or so. Don't get me wrong, it is very irritating, especially for a perfectionist like myself. However my passengers never notice it. I am the only person who notices it and honestly now I am used to it and I only hear it when I really concentrate and listen for it. The whistle sound is not overly loud and again it is a very short range i.e 2,000-2,500 RPM in second, third, and maybe fourth gear too.

I had the same whistle noise after installing the TRD intake. Dealt with it for a couple of months until I decided to get the afe throttle body spacer 46-38008, Not for performance reasons. My thought that if it’s breaking the air it should eliminate the high pitch whistle. Turns out that it worked for me and I no longer hear the whistle anymore.

Did you notice anything different, performance wise, with the throttle body spacer?
