    Hi all,

I am from Phoenix AZ, thinking about joining the 4runner club tonight actually. I just got an offer back from a dealer for a 2018 SR5 for $37,500 Out the door, and I am thinking about taking it.

Was hoping to get any thoughts, from those who know these vehicles the best, on if that is a good deal, or if i should wait for another.

Let me know! Dont worry, if I pass on this one, I am certain ill be joining you ranks soon with another deal.

Ya know, I was dealing with 2017 models, and then they threw the 2018 one into the mix, so I dont actually know what the MSRP is for this vehicle. I will look into that.

When they say out the door at that price make sure they really mean everything include, tax title, license fees. Around here there are a couple that out the door price means just the vehicle and nothing more.

I would say that is a pretty decent deal if it is indeed "OTD" including tax, title, etc.

Well I didnt pull the trigger on it yet. The offer is still $37,500 out the door after tax title and license, for a 2018 4x4 SR5. But thanks for the articles, I think ill try the internet bidding method as outlined by ramonortiz, even though I have already walked into most of the dealers in my area and tried to haggle an unrealistic price from them.

I recommend taking that price and try to have another dealer beat it. I was able to do that and got my '17 SR5 Premium for 36.9 out the door, taxes and title included

I don't think that sounds like a bad price considering it has 4x4 but you never know, you may can do better.

That's about consistent with the going price, assuming AZ has sales tax (?). I paid $34,500 for both of our 2017 SR5s but Oregon has no sales tax and after adding in the taxes to my state of residency I was at that number. The real questions are: do you want that truck, and do you trust that dealer? If so, I've always advocated just buying the damn thing. Why try to save $500 by spending hours and hours and getting frustrated in the process?

:canada:I have to agree with MeefZah. When we bought our SR5 Trail a year ago this month it was $47500 Canadian, about $37000 US. It was a demo but had less than 1000 miles on it, and the dealer had fitted it with 4 Goodyear Duratracs, over $1200 Rasbukniks worth.
They offered us a fair price for our Wrangler 4 door so we grabbed it as it was not worth our time shopping around. Besides, after a long trial drive, we were in lust with the damned thing, and still are.
    - Cheers, Ted

I am starting to agree with Meefzah, where the headache of talking to sales people, trying to negotiate a lower price, is starting to to become not worth it. However, I dont trust this dealership, and I kinda think they are going to try and sneak something in last minute.

When I was shopping I realized that around here (Portland/Vancouver) 4Runners pretty much sell at MSRP. Really hard to get any sort of significant discount off of them. So I just found what I wanted at a dealer I trusted and paid the price. The salesman I had was pretty open and honest about 4Runner pricing, saying that they rarely discount them because the next person that walks in will gladly pay full MSRP. Truecar.com shows the average price paid in my local area is only $500 off MSRP.

last year I purchased 2016 sr5 premium ... sales guy ordered it for me no deposit . 6 weeks later he calls says your vehicle is being unloaded from carrier .. next day we talked about price . I knew that most got 2K off the sticker price in my area.. so I asked if I could buy it for that $2K USD less than sticker .. he did not even blink deal done ...........

having worked at dealerships do not get into taxes/insurance/financing etc.. and other stupid costs.. sales guys will confuse you , so make it simple as possible .. with a trade then it does get complicated and they will be able to take more $$$ from your deal.

before you buy get the financing approved for the best rate.. on taxes that is simple all very variable, registration same thing .. has nothing to do with how much $$$ you purchased the vehicle from dealership.

out in California my understanding is they charge 2-4K more than MSRP..
they also charge $150 for oil changes LOL .. not gonna live in that state ...

forgot to mention always read the dealership reviews , if good then give them a shot .. if bad stay away ...

I did try the bad review dealership down the street ... they did play the game a long game .. I did not reveal I did work at dealership LOL... so after about 30 MIN ... I got up and walked out and the sales guy was not happy ... sales manager probably gave him a spanking ....

I offered -$500 under invoice, the dealer showed me the invoice and knocked $500 off it. The Costco deal shows you what you might pay with a discount

Both of those are totally valid reasons for not wanting to live in the most beautiful place in this country.

Cars and oil changes are overpriced.

I lived in CA a long time, never heard of this. If anything I was able to haggle prices easier because there were more dealers to visit. The tax on the cars is what is crazy. 7%+the registration which never seems to go down because of the bonds everyone voted for. That's the real reason to stay out of that state.

Yeah, if anything, cars are actually (relatively) cheaper here. MSRP is fairly consistent all through the US and since the cost of living is more here, salaries are more here, which basically means you can buy a car here for proportionately less than it would cost you in the midwest. But what the fuck do guys like you or me know about California, we just live here. The real experts are the people who won't set foot in the state because it's "Kommiefornia" and so forth.

I watch every work day the financial networks .. many times they say California has the highest taxes in the WORLD !!!! Now I have been to this expensive state and was thinking of working out there , well when I talked to the workers there , they did explain how bad it is ...

depends on where in cali you live I guess , if it is not expensive.. some cities the workers have to live 50 miles from work , because of the housing costs .. they at the time making $80K / year...

the little I know of this taxing state is the more you make the higher the tax rate !!! this is probably why Boston is building so many million plus condo's .. use Boston as a place of residence , then go to cali in the cold winter ...

I would put it to you like this:

I moved to California 2 years ago after visiting the state on a trip. I knew in advance that it would cost more to live here, but I basically consider that to be the "good weather and proximity to oceans, mountains, and redwoods tax". I work the same job here that I did in the Midwest - police officer - and my wife works the same job she did in the Midwest - ER nurse. Our combined salaries now adjusted for higher cost of living are exponentially more than they were back home.

Yeah, taxes are high and politics are fucked up. It's also the most beautiful place I've ever been. Pick what's important to you, I guess.

have family members in wisconsin... they do like the new england region ..has all the sport / outdoor activities/medical/colleges that you want . some winters do cause pain .. the good thing is no fires/earth quakes / and flooding issues/ mud slides..

ground here is gravel rock , lots of rocks so the rain gets sucked in quick .. the snow well that is and can be a tough thing to deal with , if Mr winter dumps 8 feet of snow in a month..

now we are in leaf peeping season , lots of tourists from all over the world ..loads of traffic ...
