When I first clicked on the link, I saw the green and before my brain could slow down to remember that green isn’t a 22 pro color, I had already shown my wife and we were going to call. But then I slowed down and it all came back to me.

Well, I have good news and bad news. I just had a very good experience buying a 2022 4Runner ORP from Mountain States Toyota in Denver for just under MSRP. However, apparently the GM has put out the notice to their team yesterday that they will not be doing any sales to out of state customers going forward for the foreseeable future. So if you are coming from another state and have a vehicle on the way with them, it would be a great idea to call them and check to make sure your deal is still on. On the other hand, if you are from Colorado, the experience I had was very low pressure and easy all the way through, and I would recommend them highly to anybody in the market for a new vehicle.

They seem committed to not charging any market adjustments, and I think the GM is worried that people may be coming in and buying from them, then reselling elsewhere for a markup. Given how tight the market is and their desire to sell vehicles to local customers who will be coming back to them for service, I totally understand his position. I am just really happy that they honored our deal and didn’t call me yesterday to pull out of it. We sometimes expect very little from the sales tactics of dealerships, but I am very happy to say that the MST team did a great job and spent a lot of time with us on a Friday night due to our plane getting into Denver late.

AutoNation in Tempe AZ is selling 4R at MSRP. Pros going 1K over for market adjustment. You have to connect with a sales person and have them bird dog it. Units are sold before hitting the port. New allotments come in 1st and 15th of each month. My ORP hit port last night. Ink to paper today. Josh was my guy.

Just exchanged some interesting emails with a couple of folks from Jones Toyota in Bel Air Maryland. They will NOT come down from a minimum $5K markup on any 4 Runner (more on Pros and ORPs). They said "but we're still interested in your trade-in!"... Ha... I would drive my trade-in into the ground before I spent one dime on a greedy dealership trying to cheat people openly. Not happening.

Don't they realize that we can get an airline ticket to an MSRP dealer anywhere in the country for much less than that?

your looking at this all wrong. I would go in and work them hard for the trade, once you come to the agreed amount, then you include the 5k Chip shortage mark up.

Ha!! true... I could just trade them the chip from my current vehicle for a $5K credit and then part-out the rest on my own.

What’s everyone’s take on dealerships that claim MSRP but have 2-3k in “addons?” Obviously no one wants to be above MSRP on their loan, especially in case of an accident. However, I’m trying to capitalize on the equity on my current vehicle as it’s worth basically what I paid for it 2 years ago. So I’m torn, paying MSRP + addons but offsetting that with equity, or just sitting this round out. This is for an SR5P so it’s not too hard finding them at MSRP at least, but everyone has addons of some sort.

I think it depends on the addons. My 4R ORP had about $1,500 of silly addons - window etching, nitrogen filled tires and couple of other small things. I kept "insisting" they take them off the deal the sales manager kept "insisting" it's the standard way the dealership prep's every car.... He tried to have me split the costs, so $750. In the end I got up from the table and started to walk out and he came after me and shook my hand saying we have a deal. I purchased at MSRP. This was in September, and this is a dealership that I have purchased three 4Runner's from since 2019. If the addons are a Toyota extended warranty or maintenance plan....I think you need to evaluate the value to you...if they are stupid items like my dealership tried to sell me on .... then no way.

I agree, it depends on the add-ons.

Please add "Koch 33" Toyota in Easton PA to the list of dealers who are taking advantage of hardworking Americans with a "market adjustment" on all 4Runner models. These lists need to last beyond the current supply chain shortage to make sure that the consequences of their greed are long lasting.

This is what I found at Miller Toyota in Manassas VA. over the phone, "of course we sell at MSRP... no markups!".. but when I test-drove, the salesman said, "yes, it will be MSRP, but you have to purchase our extended warranty package for $3K". Not 100% against that, but after asking for more details on the "warranty", it seems that it provides VERY little coverage. All it does is extends some of the factory warrant limitations, i.e. instead of a mileage limit, it shifts to the time-limit... so if you put a lot of miles on a car quickly, it MIGHT provide some value, however, very doubtful. In my mind they should just mark it up and stop splitting hairs.

Am in Phoenix helping a friend track down a Pro. Just an FYI.....

Right Toyota had a Lime Green Pro we went to see. Sold that morning before we arrived for MSRP + $25k! Understand this is Scottsdale, but still eye watering number.
I spoke with one salesman while friend spoke with another about an ORP they had on the lot. We both heard nearly identical story from both salesmen:

They had one of the last Land Cruisers left in the state this summer. MSRP around $90k. Dealer added tires/wheels/tint/modest lift, their cost approx. $10k. Listed it for a unreasonable price, sold it for $180k. Understand the last year for LC and one of the last ones available in a market that has Bentleys/GT3RS's/Aventador's, etc. running around like Camry's, but still..............

agreed on the last part. Found another dealer about 2hrs north that has a $2k markup on an SR5P but when I asked about addons, the manager said “our aftermarket department is huge, so if you want anything we can do it. But we don’t force extras on you for no reason.”

I’m probably going with a used Limited but I found frankness more respectable than trying to swindle me with a $1k app for nothing.

Unbelievable. Like a story out of a fiction book. Hard to believe the consumer end of the market could be this desperate. But apparently, some segmants are.

The people here (Colorado Springs) went through phases - now at the $12500 Market Adjustment (beyond the $7500 a few weeks ago). Small wonder I'll be getting my Lime Rush Pro next month in Tennessee. Saves thousands even with a flight to Nashville, hotels for the drive back and meals for my wife and I - plus we get a road trip out of the deal through a part of the country we've never driven though. ;)

We did the same...bought in Denver, then drove back to Houston. Stopped at Garden of the Gods on our way through town and Palo Duro Canyon State Park on the way through the panhandle. In the future, give Mountain States Toyota in Denver a chance. No market adjustment and a very easy and low pressure buying experience.

My friend put a 1K "deposit" down on a Lime Rush Pro three months ago at Desert Toyota here in Tucson. No ink to paper and he agreed to a 5K "market adjustment". (I wouldn't but he was OK with it). He was promised by his salesman that he was first in line. He confirmed it with the salesman last week who said the deal was still in place. I noticed on their website that a Lime Rush Pro was featured on their website yesterday and when I congratulated him on his new ride he was confused. He texted the salesman and asked what was up as he wasn't notified. My friend immediately got a call from the sales manager who said " we have another buyer who's willing to pay 15K "market adjustment" and if you aren't then you can come and get your check". My friend stated all the above facts and the manager threw the salesman under the bus by saying "he made a mistake" and aggressively reiterated that " it's 15K plus $1500 in add- on's, do it or your check is waiting". We were on speaker and I heard the entire conversation. Guy was an aggressive prick to my friend and he couldn't give a shit about his unconscionable behavior. My hope is that Desert Toyota will have bad juju now and reap what they sow. Friend is contacting Corporate but I doubt there will be any consequences for the dealership plus in all honesty my friend should have had something on paper. No honor among thieves. Verbal agreement and a hand shake means nothing today. Bummer.

On another note .... Last week AutoNation in Tempe AZ was selling Pros with a 1K "market adjustment" which is up to 5K this week.
