    Hi

I’m looking to order my 22 t4r trd off road premium with Kdss soon. I’m looking to moderate lift it to fit 275 or 285 tires and was told 2inch or 2.5 is the most you can lift on a kdss but not sure how true that is. When is the control arms needed? Around 2.5 to 3inch? I would like to see what suspension lifts you running.

I was looking at bilstein 5100 with stock springs and what height will I need 1inch rear springs in the rear?

I just lifted my 21 ORP with KDSS using a Toytec aluma boss 2.5. I don't have the before and after measurements but I have 285/70R17s on it. Seems to be good.

I believe at more than 3” you start to potentially have issues with KDSS not being able to accommodate the extended travel.

This should provide some useful info while you research what lift to go with:

I have a 2020 TRD ORP w/KDSS and I had Toytec 3” front and 2” rear springs, Bilstein 5100s all the way around, and SPC UCAs installed. The tires are Michelin Defender LTX in a 285/70/17 on TRD Pro wheels. No other modifications were necessary as far as tire rub. The ride quality is great.

How did you get those brown spots on the tires?

Hey Vito. Love the grey Pro wheels. Matt or glossy? Why not (if not) glossy?

No issues yet with a decent amount of off-road use.

One thing about KDSS to look out for is dirt collecting in the KDSS accumulator skid on the driver's side frame rail. It's easily removed with 2 bolts and should be cleaned out anytime you get dirty. :)

It looks like tire blooming, my KO2 are doing it and I have to use a dressing to prevent it.
    https://www.torquedetail.com/blogs/car-detailing/fix-brown-tires-blooming

As far as KDSS and lifting height, I was almost at 4" in front with no issues before adding the bumper and winch weight taking it down to 3".

Hi there I’m shopping for one now and I’m curious about KDSS.

What’s the benefit of having it on a 4runner?

There's plenty of debate about this.

    Buy it if:

1- you want better suspension articulation for low speed, off camber situations

2- you want less body roll in normal driving.

Don't buy it if your plans for the suspension include a sway bar delete.

There are a ton of informative articles about it. Here is one:

I'm debating on skids, steel is heavy & aluminum is not that strong, nevertheless, better protection than what comes with the 4R. Looking around.

I know you didn't ask me, but, if you have KDSS do not buy SOS skids as they're not compatible. Aside from that, the fitment was not great either.

FWIW, RCI seems to be the most common and not have issues. When I was shopping, I was really liking Budbuilt until SOS had a sale.

The nice thing is that you're adding weight down low, so it's not going to hurt stability. I don't think you'll see a bad hit to fuel economy unless you do a lot of stop and go driving.

Just trying to help you spend money! ;)

Lol! These forums excel at helping their members get rid of money! The best part is that many of the things we buy will eventually wear out, and then we get to buy them again!

I think I'm going to make my own in Titanium 3mm, doesn't rust ;) and is impervious to salts & most chemicals, reflects heat & is much stronger than Aluminum 2.7 g/cm³ - Steel 8.05 g/cm3 - Titanium 4.5 g/cm3. So, Titanium is 45% less heavy than steel. In fact, Titanium has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of all known metals. Maybe I commercialize Titanium skids for the 4R's, you be the first on my list $$$. Lol. I know, Titanium is expensive, hard to machine etc. Price, like I mentioned before it's all relative, some buy rims $900 & some spending $3000 on it. For sure the properties of Titanium are far beyond Aluminum & Steel.
