First-time 4Runner owner since November with a 2021 Venture Edition. Looking at my first mod and need some help deciding on one of these three step/nerf bars. Will likely only engage in light off-roading a few times a year, and there aren’t a lot of boulders in NE Indiana, so I don’t think rock sliders will be necessary.

Does anyone have experience with any of these products or installations? With runningboardwarehouse.com?

Hey there! Welcome! Like you new 4Runner owner. On the advice of two other friends, my first mods were new A/T tires and 'sliders'. Now, I haven't really looked at you links too deeply, but nerf bars remind me of the chrome side steps. Lots of guys and gals here take there rigs on way more burly stuff than I intend to. "So why get sliders?" Well, IF you do get a little squirrelly one day and crimp your rocker panel or doors, that's a darn spendy fix, especially with all the eletrickery in these vehicles.

So, after long research, and knowing the current lead times, I order some C4 sliders. I even spent the extra 80 bucks for the DOM tubing. I bought sliders for the 'just in case' aspect and that they will slide, not hook, the obstacle. Much like I think one version you show here. I've also seen a picture on this forum somewhere of someone getting broadsided - the sliders actually saved the vehicle and the little kid inside from side impact damage. So there's that too.

While there aren't many boulders in IN, you never know where you might travel in the future. Say you do head to Moab, Colorado, Oregon, etc. The initial "buy once, cry once, glad I did" might be piece of mind.

    All of them.
Need some suggestions for rear springs. I’m currently on icon 2” rear springs but adding a bumper in the next two months with dual swings outs. Guesstimated weight is going to be around 200 for bumper plus extending the weight further out back for the tire I’m running a 285/70 ridge grappler will have dual Jerry cans as well (only filled when we are going somewhere. In the back we have a half platform drawer that is around 30# empty and another 30 full. We also have a dometic cfx75dz that lives in the truck full time. I was thinking the 3” overlander spring but I’m concerned I may not have enough weight in the back especially when not fully loaded down I am at 2.5-2.75 in the front and don’t want to go any higher.

Debating Westcott sliders with top plates and 0 degrees. First as running boards, second for just in case (and nice door ding protectors lol).

My concern on the Pro is that it's just a tad too tall for my wife to jump in/out comfortably. Is there enough room on it to be used like a running board?

Looking for a front bumper with hitch mount that won't decrease approach angle or interfere with Active Cruise Control on 2022 T4R OR. I have a cradle mounted Warn 8500 that I used on my 2003 Sequoia and 2016 4R XP. Both vehicles wired for front and back winch mounting. I had used a Drawtite hitch on both but that decreased approach angle. Suggestions would be appreciated. I saw nothing in the previous pages. Gil

Thanks for the response but I should have been clearer. What I want is a bumper with a 2" female receptacle for the male end of my hitch mounted Warn 8500/ Note the front hitch impinges on approach angle and encroaches on clearance. I mount the winch as needed front or back. Most instances I've needed recovery was with the winch mounted in the back. Pointless going forward with 50 yards of heavily rutted, flooded road.

This is a great thread! I’ll need to go through it more thoroughly so I can decide which rock sliders to get with my TRD Pro. I want something that has a nice top plate so my wife can get in and out with heels and such, but I also want it to compliment the Magnetic Grey Pro…. The vehicle will be used mostly for light off-roading when camping, mountain biking, kayaking, etc so I would like them to look nice on the road as well.

The sliders will be replacing the predator steps put on by the factory.

    What are your suggestions?

I suspect you don't really need proper sliders honestly. Majority of people on here dont. Simple black tube steps would be cheaper and give the look for you maybe?
Depending on how you define "light offroading", the gas tank hanging down low below frame might be more concern although i find the factory cover there tends to survive some dragging.

What part of the country? Trails of GA or TN are quite different terrain than Utah for example.
Do you mean simple gravel road to a hiking trail or kayak launch parking lot? Semi-maintained fire roads? Crawling over the Rockies? Depending on your typical trails and driving style, sliders should likely be a bit down the list of armor upgrades. The steps give some minor protection. (Meaning at least you know when the steps hit and can try to stop before real damage is done)

What did you end up doing? There are a lot of decent-looking functional sliders with plates, but the Westcotts look way better than most. I plan to order some like what you described, plus their ladder. Eric at Westcott was helpful by phone, and I believe they’ll have a Black Friday discount soon.

For a new $50k+ truck, I'd rather overspend a few hundred bucks on sliders that I don't need, then save that money and get nerf bars only to find out I did need sliders. They'll be the first upgrade I do.

I'm planning to get the RCI sliders. They're my favorite looking, a good price, and seem to fit my needs. I'd like to hear how usable they are as a step though. My kids will need them for sure.

Waiting on powder, this'll be mated with a VR10s and a BD 30" lightbar in the coming weeks.

How about front LCA skids and a rear diff skid?

I have the RCIs but haven't installed them yet. I question whether or not they're worth the weight gain.

Has anyone purchased a set of Westcott Designs 0 deg sliders with No Kick Out, with top plates?

If so, can you please post a few pics, and provide some feedback? Thanks!

I have one in my garage waiting on my BD 20” led before I mount it with my winch. Hopefully just a few more weeks on the light. Got all 3 skids already mounted. My work bonus was pretty good this year.

Chose this on cuz I could get it in aluminum. It was between this and C4

Be cautious doing any kinetic pulls off that bumper, the recovery points aren't designed correctly.

Dont have this bumper, but now Im curious what the issue is? Are they inline w the frame? Or is it that the actual points arent welded in the correct manner? I have a warn bumper that appears correctly done/configered/welde, but I dont know if I know what to judge.

Recovery points are too high on the bumper, not in line with the frame.
