I ordered my '21 LR TRD Pro from Erin Biats at Motorcars Toyota in Cleveland. No markup, no stories. Erin came through for me and was easy to work with.

I placed my deposit in May, VIN was assigned in early July and I have my truck as of last week.

I've called over 50+ dealers in the last 1-2mo, started keeping record recently. List below. I narrowed down to three deposits and am just hoping for the best. At all 3, I was under 5 on the waitlist so hopefully that means around a 4-5mo wait.. If anybody has any leads feel free to PM me. Hoping to be as vocal as I can about dealerships charging over MSRP to inform others.

TLDR; Some are switching to "Local Only". Others are changing to markup (shocked that Sunnyvale did, @Martin the GSM is also a very scattered guy so probably fed me false info). Some dealers are just absolute sleaze bags, even going so far as to laugh or mock me when I politely say "Oh is it marked up? Thank you for the info, but I'm not interested" (Looking @ you Hollywood Toyota LA).

    Dealership / City State / MSRP (Y/N)
    Northridge Toyota Northridge CA $10,000

Larry H Miller in Colorado Springs is selling over MSRP? Wasn't my understanding, unless maybe Larry H Miller Toyota and Larry H Miller Liberty Toyota are completely different entities?

I just watched the latest Car Car Nut live chat. He brought up an interesting point. If you pay over MSRP and have a accident a few days later, the insurance company will only look at the MSRP.

Paying way over MSRP could be a risky venture.

Riverside Toyota in Rome, GA - no markup, very nice experience buying from them. Ordered a TRD PRO beginning of Jun, put 1000 down, picked it up couple days ago. The only dealer that told me he will get me one, but he would not know how long it would take. Mentioned I would not pay over MSRP and no other dealer "packages" and there was no problem. I was probably a bit lucky getting it so soon, but nevertheless, it was a very pleasant experience, even though I had a 5 hours drive one way to pick it up. I went online to probably 20+ dealers and narrowed it down to Riverside dealer. Ask for Greg, that guy makes the ball rolling.

I've read that even ORP's are going for $2,000-5,000.00 over MSRP. Sure glad I bought my 21' in early March. About a week or two before the crazy pricing started.

Yup, for example I asked Precision Toyota in Tucson what "Local Only" meant and they said you need "Tucson, AZ" on your license otherwise we wont sell it to you. Found this to be the case at A LOT of smaller cities in Oregon and Midwest.

Don't know if this has been said but pretty much any dealership is MSRP. You just need to tell them your only paying MSRP you also need to be willing to walk away. You need to be actually willing to walk out because they need to think you're really going to. I negotiated four 4 runners downs to msrp, one of them from 8k over. Because I was willing to walk away because I know it's not worth it. If it doesn't happen this year, maybe next year. That's what you're paying for is timing. I also want a Tacoma. Looks like that might be a 2022 thing because I'm not willing to pay for timing.

Know that this is just a 4 wheeled appliance and you don't need this one. Truly know you don't need it at all. Then you'll be in a better position to negotiate.

And the more folks walk out or are only paying MSRP, the faster dealerships will settle down. But we all know folks don’t care, and will spend foolishly.

Not out west or in major HCOL cities. They're so selfish and convinced they'll sell it they can sit on the car for a few months until somebody comes along and buys it. Maybe not for $20K over, or $15K but for a few grand over MSRP. These dealerships are now just scalpers taking advantage of market hype.

I'm in San Jose, CA. Pretty high cost of living. I talked every dealership down to MSRP including Capital, Sunnyvale, Gilroy, Stevens Creek, Fremont and Dublin. But maybe it's gotten much worse in the last few months with the chip shortage. Got my 4runner last November.

On a Pro though? They'll move down on other trims for sure. Dublin came back from $10K over to settling for $5K over a few months ago. That was the only one that came back with a counter when I walked though. Also, last Nov was still a relatively normal market post shut downs. In the last few months it's been getting progressively worse.

Oh heck no, I got the OR. You're obviously 100% spot on when considering the Pro. Yeah I think you're SOL if you want that Pro badge. Just replacing all the suspension anyhow so I couldn't justify getting a Pro. Trying to get a Taco in Lunar Rock and have only been able to find them on the east coast. So hopefully that color is available on other Trims next year...

Big difference in the market between 11/20 and today. When I first started looking in January about 50% of the local dealers here in Maryland were at MSRP for a MGM Pro 4R. By the time I was seriously ready to pull the trigger in March on a MGM Pro 4R most of the dealers were adding a $2,000 above MSRP (even more for the LR's). A couple of deals feel thru (twice sold while I was enroute to check one out). By May I switched to wanting a Lunar Rock right about the time one could no longer order a LR Pro 4R. I lucked out and found a Lunar Rock locally for $2,000 above MSRP at a dealership that previously told me they don't sell above MSRP. I was the first person to inquire after it was posted on their website just one hour prior to me noticing it. Placed a deposit immediately and it arrived a week later. They could have sold that vehicle for $5,000 above MSRP within 24 hours, so I did not counter at all. Since I received $4,000 more on my trade-in than I expected, the extra $2,000 did not bother me and I know it is worth more than I paid for it - even today!

Pro is sold, few days ago. If you find them on the website of any dealer 99.99% of the time its sold. I got lucky twice, once I called and the one I called about had a deposit but the had just gotten an allocation that hadn't. The other time a dealer called me back because somebody dropped their deposit for a lower trim.

Both times for me unfortunately it was a '21 in black so I wasn't that interested given that '22 MY is coming out now, I rather wait for a '22 or settle for '21 LR.

List has been updated. Looks like only about 4 dealerships in CA still willing to price at MSRP.

I just purchased my TRD Premium on August 13 for sticker (45kish) from Wyler Toyota in Clarksville Indiana(Louisville area). They had one come in a month prior, but it sold in a day, right before my appointment to see it. Salesman told me they had another one coming and if I put down 1k he would hold it. Gave him my CC number( they never even ran it) I was out of town for 2 weeks after my truck came in, they already put a "Sold" sign on it for me and held it until I got back in town. When I got home, I went in, got exactly what I wanted for my trade (perfect Infiniti Q50s) and walked out with a new truck. Love it, mods started instantly! Gene Scott was salesman, solid dude, great transaction, no pressure on the extra bullshit.20210910_084251.jpg

Hendricks Toyota, North Charleston, SC. Bought a 2022 TRD Off Road at MRSP Wednesday. Hendricks has over 100 locations.
Salesman made a point in telling me about other dealerships gouging customers but not Hendricks. With the scarcity available and my 2016 XP being totaled in a wreck over Labor Day Weekend, I was grateful to get it. Gil
