    Hi All,
    Just installed my radar detector.
I couldn’t find this posted for the 2020s as the wiring location is different. The mirrortap location on the 2020 is hiding behind the mirror stem trim (there is actually two trim pieces). Blue wire is the hot one. Don’t mess with the trying to tap the TSS as it won’t power the device. Good luck!

What type of hardwire kit did you use? I looked on Blendmount’s website and the only option they show for the 2020 4Runner is a fuse box hardwire kit. I’ve done a couple fuse box kits but they require more hiding if wire... would really like to get the kit that taps the mirror power.

I just reused the MirrorTap I had in my old VW. It has a in line fuse. Haven’t had any issues with it in the 4R. Once you get the trim off the tap slides in easy. You shouldn’t have to really hide any wires, as the trim covers most of it. Good luck.

Hey man, I just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Just used it to tap the mirror power for the dashcam in our 2021. Having your post made it a little quicker and easier!

How do you open the mirror stem trim? Take off mirror? Take off box hiding the auto dimmer camera? I'm concerned I'm going to break something... any suggestions appreciated... Thanks

I didn’t take off the mirror. The auto dimmer is inside the mirror, so nothing to worry about there. Not sure is a 21’ is different. First try and slide it down. If that doesn’t work, just be careful and slowly pull one side of the plastic cover off and then the other side. Go slow and your should be fine. Good luck.

Just go slow- I used a plastic trim remover to gently pop one side off first. They just snap back together when you're done. You don't have to take the mirror itself off, just the trim pieces around where it connects to the windshield/TSS module.

Would you be able to post a few other pictures of where your wires went? Its a bit hard for me to see whether you're looking from top or bottom, and how you got in there. I know there is that casing that can slide up and down but I am not seeing any connectors and only see a wire that goes into the headliner. I am in a 2021 and have the box for that safety system next to my mirror like yours I believe.

Just installed my radar detector with a mirror tap. The connection, as noted above, is in the stem. Simply slide the plastic cover of the mirror stem and it will be easy to pop off. There is a small harness containing two wires in the stem. Remove the harness, insert the two plugs and return the harness into the stem and you are done. 2021 TRD Off Road Premium.

Ok. Let’s see if this helps.

First, slide the cover off of the stem. Not much force is needed. It will slide out of the way.

Next you will see the harness. There is a small tab in the middle of the harness that you will need to depress in order to remove the harness.

    Depress tab and remove harness.

Insert mirror tap connections to harness.

    Reinsert harness into harness holder.

    Return cover to stem.

Turn on accessories mode and see if radar detector powers on.

Turn off accessories mode to see if radar detector powers off.

If the radar detector does not turn, you have inserted the wrong mirror tap connections into the wrong sleeve of the harness. Simply reverse the inserted connections and try to power on and off the detector.

Gently insert the excess wire above.8BC7699F-ED46-4AE7-A46D-600D55B836C8.jpgB4D6616B-2757-445E-955A-E1DD517F1E81.jpgF51CC428-1348-4276-B26B-D6908021CC63.jpg5EBDF1E8-3CC3-4A78-A6F0-6AB5E43C2886.jpgFD383B12-1D7B-4D20-B328-0D4B7440AFE8.jpg5464A2A6-EC43-4253-8EFD-D4434F16D4F5.jpgB651AD8A-DCFE-47D2-AC15-C8E26E83C4B4.jpg

    That’s it.

Thanks for the tips here, everyone! I was able to get my Uniden R7 all set up today in my 2023 ORP on a BlendMount. Here are a few extra nuggets of info that may be helpful:

    1. The part number for the mirror stem cover is 87818-53020. Why do I know this? Because, of course, I broke one tab on mine while popping it off.
    2. The BlendMount model that fits my 2023 ORP is BR7-2001R. You should remove the included bushings for proper fit around the mirror stem.
    3. I used BlendMount mirror tap power cord # MTX-1015, and it was the perfect length (some slack but not too much to try to hide). The second largest taps (of the four pairs provided) are the best size for the harness.
