100% agree. I spent a night by a crater at Death Valley and it was one of the best nights of my life. Sleeping in your vehicle is not about saving money that some people think. You want to stay close to nature or you are too exhausted to go to a motel or you just want to save time and get busy exploring the next day.

This is a good camping spot

Beautiful, that’s what I’m talking about. In 2020, we went cross country and back, one of the hi lights was camping in the desert.

The 4.7 might have been the best SUV engine Toyota ever produced. While detuned for the 4Runner and GX, it was the same engine used in the flagship Lexus LX...with the same torque number, only the HP was different. If Toyota was willing to stick it in an LX, it was a blessing the 4Runner got it. Imagine the 6th gen 4Runner with a TTV6...

No part of me has ever wanted to use a roof top tent. I use a camper and/or the 4Runner. Not sure about overlanding, but I've always gone camping/exploring and seek out the trails less traveled in Northern Michigan and Canada. It's not about how big of a boulder I can climb but getting to places that almost nobody goes.

At least one trim in the 6th 4R should have received the 3.4 turbo

It definitely would have been cool. But, Toyota would be competing with themselves then by putting the same motor in the 4Runner that the GX gets. Plus, who knows how that would fit in with their CAFE standards.

4th gen shared a motor with Lexus if I recall correctly. And Lexus was still selling. A common motor with Lexus is not going to hurt Lexus, Lexus is a different animal

Has anybody test driven the 200 series Land Cruiser and the LX570? I have. And the Lexus was quieter and more comfortable. Lexus are built different, they are nicer. I was interested in buying the LX but the deal just didn't go through. This was before Covid.

100% Lexus is a different animal. The interior quality and comfort is light years beyond anything Toyota offers.

Lol, that's what "overland" rigs look like to me with all the obligatory gear mounted everywhere.

The new LX and GX share the same motor, except the LX is tuned to produce 409 HP and the GX version is detuned to produce 349.

Toyota could place the 3.4 into the 4Runner, have it crank out 320 HP or whatever and people would spend based on how many horses they wanted under the hood. They've done it before...

The 2.4 iForceMax produces identical torque to the 3.4 in the GX but it just doesn't have the power to sell. People love V6s and V8s.

I honestly admire one thing about the 6th. 465 ft lb of torque is A LOT. Not sure if even Bronco CRaptor has that or the 392 Wrangler. If you buy it, save some money every month for the day when the battery craps out. Or baby the hybrid system, drive it a mile or two daily, don't park the stupid thing for 6 months.

Yup...and the 3.4 won't be quite as stressed to do the same job as the 2.4 will be.

No coincidence that the new GX can tow more than the new Land Cruiser. And honestly, I would be more confident towing 9,000 lbs with the old 5.7L Land Cruiser.

So your saying I won’t be able to find those fuel storage containers locally.

I was also wonder if they had an aftermarket roof rack.

The wife and I were laughing so hard on the way back. She said "better get a look at these speed bags bouncing around. After these shocks go on....so is the bouncing."

I'll find a place to test all three sets out...

What would the purpose be? To sell a few extra units to idiots who can't comprehend anything beyond engine displacement?

People are going to buy them either way. Why would Toyota bother with multiple engine options? They would only lose money on it.

So, instead of an efficient 2.4 turbo that makes more power than almost every 4Runner engine to date, they should put in a detuned turbo V6 that would certainly get worse fuel economy? Makes sense

Why to detune? Just give 4Runner a GX motor like in the 4th gen, for people who want to tow more. 4th gen V8 4Runner towed more.
